Loud Rattle From Underneath
Loud Rattle From Underneath
My truck just developed this very loud rattle. It seems to be coming from the rear but it is hard to tell for sure since it only does it on hard acceleration. It sounds like there are small rocks in the hub covers. I tried reproducing by revving in neutral with no success any ideas? It really sounds like little rocks in the hub covers, but is very loud. Could it be the catalytic converter? Is so, then wouldn't it do it when revved in neutral? Thanks for any suggestions!!
I had the same problem about 2 weeks ago, but this is the story.
I bought my 07 and a few weeks after i was hearing a light tapping noise (like metal on metal) coming from under the drivers side. Out of shear laziness i assumed my side steps were loose and let it be for a good while. Then it got just slightly louder and i got under the truck and noticed it was not the side step and it was coming from the catalytic converter. I took it to the dealership and they told me it was the heat sheild cover for the catalytic converter. They replaced the clamps for the heatsheild and i recieved a call from the dealer telling me that the noise was STILL there and they needed to replace the whole catalytic converter (which was what i suspected anyway). After they replaced the converter it was completely fixed and it does not make the noise anymore.
The dealer also told me they have been getting alot of those problems lately.
Hope this helped.

Hey there....I'm about 99% sure this is the same problem I ran into recently. I installed a leveling kit on my buddies 04 screw. During the process I accidentally knocked off a vaccuum line that goes to the front hubs. I had to search on this forum to verify but it was the loss of vaccuum that was making the hubs try to engage and grind, only during acceleration. It sounded like dragging metal cans. Check behind your steering knuckles, just above the cv boot, you will see a rubber vaccuum hose. Check to make sure they are pushed on all the way. Also check the hoses for any holes or cracks. These hoses also go up into the engine compartment to the solenoid. It is located somewhere behind the battery. I have posted this message before and helped about 3 other people with this problem. Keep up posted on what you find....
