Wheel refinishing

My truck was wrecked slightly, and the body shop stated that they would just refinish the wheel. Is that really possible with the partially painted Lariat wheels? If it is whould the finish hold up to the heat and brake dust? If anyone has had this done, I would like to know how you think it came out. I can't imagine it is cheaper to do that than just slap a new one on.

Well i dont know what you did to your wheel exactly, but in my old car i ran into a pothole and dented my rim pretty badly. So i took it to a local wheel repair shop and the fixed the dent and refinished for a little less than $100.00. It may depend on the size of the rim and if it's chorme. The wheel they re-did for me was a 17" alloy.

Oh and yes it's cheaper and it will definately hold up. You have nothing to worry about they are doing the right thing.

Your Lariat wheels are totally painted.

They have a clear coat over the entire wheel, even the machined areas.

That's why I don't get guys that insist on using a metal polish to polish the heck out of their XLT or Lariat alum. wheels.

The finish will hold up fine (so long as they know what they are doing to begin with).

I guess thats what i'm afraid of. I just don't know how they can get the machined look back on the clear coated aluminum part. I can see where it would be easy on the part that is painted Arizona Beige. Thanks for the input.

or if you rather get a new rim, usually you can find single rims for sale on ebay.

I have checked into this and it seems as though a 100.00 to 125.00 is about the going rate to repair any size wheel most reputable places will take the wheel all the way down to bare alluminum and then repaint painted areas and then clear the whole thing. If there are bends the fix does not affect the integrity of the wheel the only thing youll notice is some hot spots where the lip off the wheel has to be heated up. Of course the only way to see that is if there is no tire on the wheel.
