newbie here with ?s

Hey guys! Three weeks ago i traded my 99 f150 xlt 4x4 supercab for a 05 lariat supercrew 4x4. I love this truck, it drives and handles better and you can feel the power difference between the trucks.
I have been on the forum lurking before and have got some questions about some possible problems with the supercrew.

1. The engine has a soft tick that i hear at idle. Is this the noisy injectors that people have talked about? Is the 3v a noisier engine than the 2v?

2. Sometimes the engine doesnt feel connected to the gas pedal, or it doesnt respond well and low mph and low engine speed. Is this something a ecu flash would fix?

3. With the gear selector in 1st at low mph speed and lower rpm it will jerk and you will feel and hear an audible clunk? would this be related to #2? If im gonna pull with this truck i am going to have to 1st gear once in a while towing.

Dont get me wrong i thick this truck is awesome just trying to figure it out.

answer 1: my truck ticks too, even worse when the hood is open. i've been told it is the injectors.

answer 2 n 3: When in 2nd or 1st gear, the gas pedal is reduced on mine, you have to push it farther down to take off, i think its so you can't go fast in those gears. I never have gotten a clunk or noise in those gears

Well you're right, the pedal is not connected to the engine. It is a "fly by wire" setup. It is referred to by throttle lag here. Do a search and you will find many posts about it.

I got the Edge tuner and it is now history.

Welcome to the boards.

No clunks here...yes, I do have a slight ticking noise.

Like stated above...Edge Tuner got rid of my throttle lag.

I also have the edge and would say that it improves the lag but does not eliminate it. A tuner is a definite must have.

BTW your truck looks great.

your ruck has an electronic throttle...Ford killed off the old cable throttle.

to answer you question about 2nd and 1st gear...the PCM remaps the throttle when you put the selector into 2nd and 1st gear. this is supposed to give you more throttle control while towing...basically makes it harder to spin out and do stupid stuff

nice looking truck

thanks guys! I am little concerned over the ticking noise as my previous 99 f150 had the cold start piston slap that used to go away when it warmed up and when i traded if off, well you could hear it all the time.

as far as the throttle lag. it is very noticeable to me because most of the time i am driving gently to save gas mileage. just squeezing the gas pedal the delay is annoying. if i drive aggressively i hardly notice it but the gas gauge drops though. same with the tranny in 1st the clunking noise sounds like a u joint thats gone, but is seems more touchy to pedal position.

oh well it is still under factory warranty, so i will probably have them take a look at it.

Nice truck. I have always wanted to see one in Arizona Beige with the chrome rocker panels. Very nice indeed. Let's hope they have some cool options like that for 2009!
