Question Tool 4 headlight beam adjustment...

... I know is a 5/32 [4mm] but when I try to attach my ratched to the socket bit sitting in there, it won't work because of the clearence issue.

I've tried to find a 5/32 [4mm] ratchet type wrench but nobody makes anything that small.

Ford says they have no specific part for that.

Since my wheel/tire/leveling package went on, I've had to adjust my headlight beams but I have no way of doing it.

What did you guys use for this?

When I adjusted my headlights on my 03 Expedition, I ended up using an extension adaptor, so the thing ended up being long enough. Just make sure it doesn't fall off the adaptor, cuz it's a PITA to get it out. A coat hanger and a magnet, plus a couple of minutes of struggling got the thing out.

I don't understand what you mean when you say: "extension adaptor."

It's difficult enough putting the ratchet onto the socket without an extension bit....???

Sorry for the misunderstanding. I don't know the real name of it.

I don't have a complete ratchet set, per say. More of bits and pieces. I had one of the medium sized ratchets handy, but the bit (or w/e it's called, the thing that's 4mm) required a small ratchet. So I grabbed an adaptor from my dad's set (it allows medium ratches to attach to the smaller "bits") and put it on.

When I was done, just as I was pulling it up, the "bit" came loose, so I had to fish it out.

Hopefully that's better?

Your friendly, local Snap-On or Mac dealer can set you up. That's where I got mine.

I went to Sears and got 2 sets of small combination wrenches. One SAE and one metric. Sizes like 4mm, 3mm etc. Cheap and the work for other things too.

I used a socket that fit (5/32 sounds about right), and turned it with a regular set of slip-joint pliers. The teeth gripped the socket just fine, and it got the job done.

That is what I have, although you might want to get the metric sizes too. There are some sizes that just don't cut using SAE on metric and metric on SAE. Especially now that just about everything is metric.

I thought our headlight were unadjustable except on the horizontal plain?

Vertical. They can only be adjusted up or down. For that you need a 4mm wrench.
