Leather seats came apart. Help..

I have an 04 SCAB lariat with black leather. And wouldn't ya know it, I just came out of factory warrenty abut 5 months ago..

I was putting on leather conditioner yesterday when I noticed that I could put my finger straight through the seam. The leather did not actually rip, but on the drivers seat, just about where your right rear pants pocket would be (if you were sitting) the thread broke and the seam opened. Figures that they wont fix it... So I spent the better part of an hour trying to get the leather cover off.. After many bloody knuckles and a broken plastic clip thing, it came off... Now I need to go to an upholestry shop and have the re-sew it....

I imagine that putting it back on is going to be even harder....

Anybody have any experience doing stuff like this? The leather was held to the seat with 9 metal rings that run along the seams. Since the space was limited, I was thinking of using small zip-ties when I put it back on. Far easier than trying to rebend the metal rings. Might work..

Any helpful hints?????

I think some guys have used zip ties. I got the hog rings and a set of pliers at Ace Hardware for ~ 10 bucks

You can buy just the bottom leather cover but its going to be expensive coming from the dealership. I bought just the seat foam for the bottom part of the drivers seat and that was 78 dollars.

You can check with a local junk yard to see if they have one you can get and just swap the bottom out. I assume that is the one with the tear. You can also see what the shop will charge to re-install the skin on the seat.
