Body Security Module

So I did the impossible tonight, I managed to get the back of my rear seat off. Pretty simple given the amount of post I read on it, I pretty much knew excately what to do thanks to all the information on this website. It helps I got long skinny arms to and was able to fish around behind the seat.

Anyway, when I got the back off of the seat, I noticed a black box behind the carpet material on the driver side with Body Security Module on it. It also has on the label, "Siemens VDO Automotive 5L3T-15604-Bb" and on the plastic box itself has "PA66-(GF+M)37 embossed on it. Can anyone shed some light on the purpose of this box?

Also on the Passenger side was a Large plug that almost looks like a large 2 prong fuse would plug into it, it has a red and tan wire, and a yellow adn blue wire running to it. Any info on this would also be great.

The box is just what it says, the security module. it controls the alarm and keyless entry of the truck. the plug is either the center slider motor plug or rear defroster plug. is it to ward the ceter of the truck, if so it is the sooner rather than the latter.

Siemens is a great company... they make super high quality parts. Infact they make 99% of the electronics for Mercedes and BMW.

Check out their site... and drool over some of their digital LCD instrument clusters... I was thinking about contacting them to make an instrument cluster for both my F150 and my Dakota... probably cost some $$ though.

They are a VERY innovative company.
