Old Topic...Hot Engine...No Start!

When the engine on my 2006 FX4 Supercrew is hot and I shut it off for just a few minutes and go to start it, it does not start. The engine turns like it wants to start, but no go. Only after I let it sit for a moment and force it to start will it start. This is an intermittant issue. I had this same problem last summer, but not during the winter months. It must be temperature related.

I realize this topic was discussed last year, but I never saw the cause or a final fix stated. Can any members enlighten me as to what my problem is and how Ford is going to fix it?

From: Georgia on my mind...
It's probably got a/an injector(s) hanging up at times.

You've probably already seen these threads, but just in case:

Hard to start when warm 5.4L.
05 FX4 hard to start *sometimes*
Truck would not start....
Truck wont start....sometimes

Stragum's truck (see the third thread above) was apparently fixed by replacing the starter terminal wiring pigtail. In my case, the only time the problem occurs (so far) is when I run the stock PCM programming and, even then, it only happens once every 5-6 months. I'm currently running the Edge on Level 2 and have yet to have the problem recur (*knocks on wood*).

In addition to the starter terminal wiring and the PCM programming, it has also been suggested that a leaky fuel injector could be at fault.

EDIT: I was writing my response when Quintin posted his. He's one of the most knowledgeable members of this forum, so I'd definitely watch for a faulty injector.

Thanks Quintin and C-17 Pilot for your replies. I appreciate it!

I had been following Stragum's thread on this topic, but must have stopped around the Holidays and shortly thereafter. Also, my truck was not exhibiting the problem during this period. No that the warm weather is back in the Midwest, this problem has "reared it's ugly head". I'll be pursueing TSB 06-19-14 that seems to have fixed Stragum's issue. Seems like a pretty easy fix. Hey...let's not forget it was anthony who first pointed out this TSB and Stragum for maintaining a thread on this topic. Thanks guys!

I will remain optimistic this TSB is the fix. If not, then it's on to the injectors.

It's interesting that you mention the connection between the no start issue and temperature. In one of my past posts I mentioned that the problem appeared to be related to temperature, but in my case it seems to occur when going from warm weather to cold weather.

If you perform TSB 06-19-14 yourself, let us know how it goes. I've given some thought to doing this one myself since it is supposed to be fairly straightforward.

Good luck!
