6 disk cd error

I wanted to put this here because I know it'll get more views here than anywhere else. Plus I leave on a 3 week family vacation in the morning so I'm hoping someone can help me out here before the evening is up.

I purchased a 6 disk CD player from a fellow member here and got it last night and tried to install it this evening. I tried to insert a CD, but it told me that the slots were all full. I then tried to eject, but got an eject error. Anyone know a fix for this?

I'm not 100% sure if this is your problem but there is something called "ship mode" that locks the changing mechanism for shipping purposes. I don't recall the display saying "slots full", but I know there is a way to enter the diagnostic mode. Try doing a search, but I think its something like holding 3 & 5 while starting the truck to enter the diagnostic mode.

I get disc errors all the time with my home made discs. Never had one with a "real" CD though.

I can't even load a CD because when I try to load one it simply says "slots full." I hit the eject button to try and see if anything might eject and then it gives me the eject error.

I think after reading all the comments on how bad these stock radios are I may just hold off on buying another stock 6 disk player and stick with my single one for now until I can save up for a decent aftermarket one. Stereo equipment isn't something I want to spend a whole lot of money on though. Thanks for all the feedback.

Was the HU from the same type vehicle & year ? This may be a programming problem. Try a thread search, there is plenty of info on this & similar problems.
To the poster with the bad cd error:What burning program r u using ?

Interesting. My stock 6-disc has never given me an error, and reads every CD I've put it in - burned or not.

you probably dont have a mp3 head unit and are trying to play a mp3 cd like most burnt cd's are

I'm with Curio.

Never had an issue with mine and I play burned and scrtached discs often.

Often, I think about upgrading to a aftermarket but I have a tendency to not try-n-fix something that isn't broke...

My 6 disk changer works perfectly. I put in original CD's or burned MP3 disk's and it plays them with no problems.

Did you buy a HU from an F-150 or another type of Ford vehicle? F-150 HU's are plug-n-play. Passenger car HU's and some other trucks models are not 100% compatable with the F-150.

My '05 F-150 6CD unit had some issues with the #5 CD slot. Wouldn't load/eject or play any CD. I unplugged it several times, no help. I ended up leaving it unplugged for a couple of days and it worked just fine ever since. My '05 Sport Trac, '06 Expedition and '07 F-150 units have been free of any problems.

As far as MP3 discs go, burn them as a data disc. I've had zero problems using NERO.
