Can you use a stock spare with 38's?

I am working on my body lift now, and it is to the part were you modify the spare tire mount. Is it worth it for me to carry a stock size spare? Or is it completely useless? If I got a flat within just a few miles of my house could I use the stock spare to get home?

Thanks

Theoretically, yes. However if you have an LSD rear, I wouldnt recommend using it to replace a rear tire. The different tire sizes can make the clutches burn up quicker. If you don't mind swapping a front tire to the rear and the spare to the front, then it could be done. Too much work, though IMO. You could always buy a knock off version of one of your rims and a cheaper tire that is the same size. Then mount it in the bed with a spare tire carrier. That's what i would do.

i dont carry a spare umless i am going offroad then i use a 37" that i got for free, i do have a onbaord air system and tire plugs so as long as i dont get a blow out (very hard to do with offroad tires that have a high ply count) i will be fine. damn 38" takes up the whole bed

I've used a stock spare on my 2500HD in place of a 35 inch tire just to get back to the farm house from a trail. (came off the wheel). At very slow speeds you should be OK until you can get the big one fixed.

I'd stick with stock...even a cheaper tire of the same size will cost you $200+

like 02SuperCrew4x said, just make sure your rear tires are the same size. you can limp to a repair shop with 2 different sized fronts and not cause any damage
