why does this thread sound like another one of those "gonna switch" threads?

only 3 posts, and that is after a "problem" pops up and you feel the need to tell everyone.

if you're legit, good luck, Lemon law procedings are excessive. You said yourself you drove it for 6,000 miles with slippage. Do you honestly think that won't do some serious damage?

I just talked to my dealer and they will have the shop foreman ride around with me. It's just an intermediate problem right now, but hopefully it will act up during the test drive. Either way my truck won't go into 4X4, so that has to get fixed. I can't start the lemon law until a 4th problem happens with the transmission. I'm on problem 3 right now, so hopefully they will replace the transmission this time and I won't have anymore problems.

I test drove the Nissan Titan before I bought the F150. I was quite impressed with it. The engine and transmission were absolutely awesome. I didn't buy it because of some of the problems they had with the differentials and the interior wasn't nearly as nice as the F150. Overall I thought the F150 was the better built truck. Ford just needs to revamp the drivetrain in these trucks.

I also test drove the Toyota Tundra after I had the first problem with my transmission. It drives just like my F150 except it has tons more power.

I also drove the Titan (again) on the same day as the Tundra. Overall I liked the Titan better.

I'm not trying to bash Ford or anything, I just want to have a truck that doesn't have problems with the transmission every 12,000 miles. I've never had a problem with any Ford until now. I need a reliable truck to travel for my job and my truck just hasn't delivered that yet.

I've been reading posts on this board since July of 2006. Its part of the reason I decided to go with the Ford instead of the Nissan. I may only have 3 posts, but no one on who buys a brand new truck should have transmission slippage at 6000 miles period. According to the Ford technicians there was a broken weld inside the transmission. So, I've had a defective truck since the day it rolled off the assembly line. The problem just got worse with time. I travel so much I had to drive this truck until I found time to take it to the dealer. I've always been a Ford fan and would rather keep my truck, but I shouldn't have to deal with a unreliable truck while it's still covered under the factory warranty.

Look, I know how frustrating it can be to have your new truck already giving you problems. But going with a Nissan or Toyota isn't a guarentee that it won't happen again to you. Every manufacturer has it's own problems. Feel free to visit forums dedicated to the competition (titaltalk.com, etc). You'll quickly see that they have just as many, if not more, problems as the F150's do. And, to address your problem, this is not a very wide-spread problem. I'm sure they've been other report of it happening on this website, but I can't remember a single one of them.

Hopefully you did this BEFORE you purchased, but you just need to decide what truck suits your needs the best, and then go with it. If it has problems, then you've got to deal with getting them fixed. If it's a lemon, then it's a lemon. Chances are very bad that you'll get 2 lemons in a row though.

For me, even if my truck was a lemon (which it's not), I think I'd still go with another F150 because, overall, I think it's the best truck out there. Maybe not the most powerful. Maybe it doesn't have the highest tow ratings. Maybe it doesn't have a 5- or 6-speed tranny. But as a package, when you weigh everything about it, I feel it tops the pack. And no, I don't bleed Ford Blue. I've owned Toyotas, Dodges, and Hondas. I choose my truck based upon functionality and appearance, not based upon who the manufacturer is.

I see it just like a marriage... When I first married my wife, I didn't know of all the "problems" that would surface. Maybe she started to act a certain way that I didn't like. Maybe a million things... But she's who I decided to spend the rest of my life with. Am I going to say "oh, I should have gone with so-and-so instead"? No, I'm going to fix what I can, and deal with the rest... Now if she turned out to be a Lemon, then all bets are off!

I was on titantalk and most of the F150 boards long before I decided to buy my truck. Like I said earlier this board was one of the reasons I decided to go with the Ford instead of the Nissan. I researched every 1/2 ton truck on the market for several months before I decided to go with Ford. It did fit my needs and I could get a crew cab and a 6 1/2 foot bed. I just don't like the transmission in my truck and hopefully a NEW not rebuilt transmission will fix that.

sorry if you feel like I'm zinging on you. alot of people come along and post bogus F-150 sucks posts. then they disappear.

I just find it hard to sympathize when you drove for 6,000 miles with the transmission slipping...on a brand new truck. that's something you do with a used beater you don't care about.

your right though, you do probably need a new transmission. the guys who serviced your transmission probably only fixed the obviously broken parts. after driving with that kind of damage, you most likey ruined most parts of it.

Considering it's nothing for me to put 1000 miles on the truck in one week, 6000 miles isn't that long. It started out feeling like it was a bump in the road, but it happened one time on a completely smooth road. I didn't think much of it until it started happing every day and progressively got worse. There happened to be a TSB that pretty much described what I was feeling, but that ended up not being what was wrong. I've made an appointment with the dealer to have them look at it on Friday. Either way my 4X4 doesn't work at all, so I'll have to leave it with the dealer for awhile anyway.

I'm thinking it could also be something to do with the shifting program in the transmission. That's one reason I may go with the Troyer Xcal2 after I get the transmission replaced.

I was hoping someone on this thread might have had a similar incident with their truck and might be able to help out with some kind of diagnosis. Any ideas why the 4X4 quit working?

What do you mean by "4x4 quit working"? Can you explain?

Well I wanted to see if the transmission would slip when in 4low. Well, started to put it in 4high and no light on the dash came on letting me know it was in 4 wheel drive. I stopped in a parking lot and put it in 4low and nothing happened. Yes, I had the transmission in neutral with my foot on the brake when trying to get it in 4low.

Is there a possibility a faulty transmission may prevent the truck from going into 4X4? It's probably some electronic problem with the 4X4 system.

I'm glad I bought the extended warranty on this truck. It sure looks like I'll be using every bit of it.
