Rear end help
So some of you may know that Ive had the rear end in my 2004 F150 replaces 2 times for making horrible grinding noises and whining noises. This last rebuild lasted less than 20k until it started grinding again. Its a loping rotating grind.
I'm obviously out of warranty at 120k, but Im wondering if I go for after market gears, will it make any difference, or is there something wrong with the actual axle itself? Just wondering because thats the only thing they never replaced.
Thanks

no idea but if i were in your position with that much problems. i wouldnt waste my money on trying new gears or a new axle, i would completly repalce the rear end with a whole different setup.
Yeah well I cant afford to replace my entire rear axle. I was going to trade this piece in but I still owe too much on it.
I just dont know what to do, and Im mad because Ive gone through the factory rear (Lasted 1 week) and then had it rebuild twice since then and every time the noise comes back.
This 04 has got to be the worst truck I've ever owned.

Sounds like if you had it rebuilt that many times, no matter what you do to it, it's gonna happen again. Could be a flaw in the housing which is causing your problem. Another complete asslembly is the only way to go
Ill pass on the toyota thanks.
I was however looking to trade it in for a new Sport Trac with the 4.6 but its too small, I owe too much, and I dont like the hard plastic interior.
So, do you guys think that this is life threatening to the rear? The LSD still seems pretty tight. I dont want it blowing up or locking up while Im doing 75+
Thanks!
