Programming a new cluster

Okay I will try and make a long story short, or as short as possible.

Finally found a nice deal on a Lariat Cluster on ebay so I could swap out the stock cluster on my XLT. Ordered the message center switch through my dealership.

My dealership ended up saying it was impossible to due. I consider their mechanic and service manager either incompetent or lazy.

So I had a couple of phone calls made and another dealership in town said no problem on doing it. Dropped my truck off on thursday at lunch so they could take a look. They wanted to see if my truck need a logic module behind the dash or if it had it. Well they also had some issues programming the new cluster. They want the VIN number from the truck the new cluster came from. This is information I don't have and the person I bought it from hasn't been able to look it up either.

Is there anything they might be missing in getting the programming done with the new cluster. They have told me they need the original VIN so it properly programs in the features of the message center. And I am so far really pleased with their handling of the install since they are being very careful with how they go about it to protect my warrenty.

Perhaps this is why dealership #1 said it was impossible?

Maybe tell them to use a vin off of a new lariat on the lot and see if that works.

Sometimes I wish I had bought an XLT and swapped the cluster, dash, door panels, and leather seats. Would have been much cheaper and far more rewarding. Congrats on tackling the job, I know it will turn out for the better.

Why don't you find a lariat witht he same cluster and give them that vin number? Worth a shot.

I'm interested in seeing how this works out. I want to add the mpg and all that crap to my cluster in my FX4
