The cord lays against my leg which doesn't bother me. My knee has never touched the radio mounted there.

Aside from road usage, yes. Most 4x4 clubs REQUIRE a CB radio be in the vehicle and on during club runs. Usually on channel 16 (4x4, get it?).

They are far from obsolete actually. During Hurricane Rita, we used CBs fairly extensively to coordinate volunteer efforts (moving food / water / cots / etc... between shelters.)

Have used one in every vehicle I've ever had. It's saved me from more interstate 40 tickets than my "bird dogs" have by far.

Captain, I say you put the BackRack on again and mount it where you had it. I liked it alot im actually planning on doing it myself. I got the backrack already just need to fab up a bracket to where the Antenna will fold down if I need it to, for clearance after I lift.

has anyone tried the firestick connector that will allow your cb antenna to double as your stereo antenna?

thanks for the information, what kind of antenna do you have? I like a small one that is hardly noticeable so if i do decide to get a cb radio i might just try that antenna splitter.

I would but I hate the way the tool box brackets look just hangin out there on the bed rails. I called about getting the regular brackets and they wanted like $60 and I aint payin that.

Just get a gum drop mount and then you can just unscrew the antenna whenever you need to.
