Question on train horns.......

I know there's at least one of you on here with horns......ramss/t I believe. I want a good sounding horn. This video has 2 different horns in it. The horn blasters 4 horns and a nathan K3HA. I like the tone of the nathan horn the best and I was wondering if any of you have one that sounds like that. The HB4H from horn blasters doesn't quite have the tone I'm lookin for.

Matt,
I bought this one.............. http://www.siege-engineering.com/Items/J-3L-120-A-W-H3?
There is a sound clip also
I didnt buy from the website. Go to ebay and do a search for siege engineering. Good quality complete kits. ALOT cheaper than hornblasters.I paid 1/2 of what its listed for on the website. All i have to do is mount the tank in the bed (after i get a bedliner) this week. I also ran a 10guage wire into the cab and put a fuse panel and ran everything from there..I am going to start a thread soon with my newest mods and this will be on there sometime this week...

same here, i bought my first set from seige engineering. nice horn, extremely loud. once i work on my drop with airbags, i'll be moving onto the plastic 4 trumpet set hornblasters has (suicidedoors.com as well) the tone all depends on the volume of air your pushing through. (as well as the trumpet size) using a 1/2" line will give you a louder tone than a 1/4 or 3/8" line. i thought about bumping mine up to 3/4" to see how loud i can get em. my buddy has them on his kenworth, running a 3/4" line @ 170 psi and they'll wake up the neighborhood. quite literally. airhornsoftexas.com also has a nice 3 trumpet set that another friend has. good sound.

Hmm, I have a horn that sounds exactly like that....

Probably cause the van in that video is mine

Honestly, there's no comparison between authentic train horns and the glorified truck horns that pass for train horns these days...

If you want the real deal, go with a Nathan K series or Leslie ST

Here's an old shop test video of that same K3HA:

Linky

Here are a few pix showing where they currently reside on a safari style roof rack I built for my daily beater:

What do you think of the HB4H's in the video posted above?

They have a deeper tone, but although they're quite deafening, they aren't nearly as loud as the K3HA....

If you want a really deep tone and have the money (and space), go with a ferry horn like this Kahlenberg D2

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-LdEJ...e=user&search=

They sound very deep and the sound seems to carry on forever

Also, with that air compressor would it be possible to connect an air hose and air up tires, or run a nail gun?

Each State is different, but the general concensus is that they're Legal to have, but Illegal to use....

In other words, don't get caught blowing them lol

Not directly off the compressor because it won't push nearly as much cfm needed for that, but with the tanks filled, you can easily run small air tools and air up your tires...

I generally use mine for tires, blowing dust out of the interior or just airing up pool toys for the kids...

The HB4H's should do fine then....

You should be able to get a set with noid for about $100 bucks...

Don't go by the prices on HornBlaster's website...

Contact Matt directly and he'll hook you up....

Yep

Compressor, cooling fans, pressure switch, relays and secondary fuse block...

Might look a bit ghetto, but it gets the job done for only $7 bucks....

I got these installed in my truck.

http://www.siege-engineering.com/Items/J-3L-120-A-W-H4?

Kids Love'em!

Mounted the compressor on the side of my wheel well toolbox and put the switch in the cigarette lighter hole. I don't smoke so I don't need 2 power outlets. Horns went under the bed. You can't run air tools on them the or air up tires the tank and pump will burn the brushes running that long.

Ghetto, I don't think so. It's a great ideal! What's the duty cycle on that pump though? I have like a 4 minute duty cycle. Plenty of time to fill my little tank again but no way it can handle those big tanks you have. I would like to have something larger to fill flat tires and run some tools.

Oh that rack looks great! If you don't mind me asking how much did those lights set you back? I got a yakima monster rack and So far i got 1 set of Hella blackmagics on the front and waiting on another to be delivered. I want to do a single light on both sides plus a set on the back corners but I need to be realistic and not dump another $200 a set here.

Thanx

It was either that or a $150 tool box and I just figured no one would want to steal a mailbox lol

It's a ViAir 450c which has a 100% duty cycle....

It's rated to fill a 5 gallon tank from 0-150psi in about 7 minutes, however, the working pressure I use is between 110 and 150psi

Since the setup is used mainly for the train horns, it rarely gets below 100psi, so even though I doubled the normal fill capacity, it still only takes about 4-5 minutes between cycles with twice the usual blast time....

Believe it or not, the lights are only $7.99 a pop @ Northern Tools

We have a local outlet that sold them for $9.99 store price, but their website listed them for $7.99 + shipping....

Since the stores honor all web based prices, I just printed it out and bought the whole shelf lol

They use the same standard 100w H3 bulb found in higher end lights and the lens is real glass, so there's no fading like with plastic lenses....

What's funny is that a replacement bulb at VatoZone will set you back more than the cost of a new light assembly
