Hualing mulch this weekend, got a ?

How much mulch do you think I can fit in the bed of my 05 STX flareside 4x4 4.6L, 3.73 limited slip, 6.5ft bed without the weight causing any problems with the handling.. Doing some yard work this weekend and my wife is wanting me to put some mulch down and I only want to make one trip. Thanks for the help.

Pretty close to the recomended max load. Supposedly we can haul around 2 tons in the beds (well my 6.5' box X-cab can) the most I've had in it was just short of 3,000 pounds of stone and it didn't drive bad, it was just REALLY slow.

Hi.

Pretty much all you can cram in there, as long as it's not dripping wet.

Don't forget yer tarp LOL!

Me - I save the hassle & mess & just have it delivered in bulk...

No sweat.

Cheers

Yup.

Been there and done that many times. So long as it's not soaked, you'll be fine.

My '97 would get a bit light in the front end but I hauled a load of pea gravel in my '05 and other than the squat, I never knew it was in there.

Plus mulch is pretty light compared to say dirt. I wouldn't worry about the driving charateristics unless you have to go 20-30 miles. For me it's just a 1.5 drive from the garden center to my house. I used to take a yard at a time in my 05 Tacoma with a whimpy little 4 cyl. It would ride on the bump stops from there to my house until is it's unloaded. Just drive carefully and you'll be fine.

Heck I even overloaded it with wood and let it sit overnight and it had no ill effects to the suspension. Just had to drive a little more cautiously as it made the truck have a "tail waggin" feeling.

you can put two full scoops of mulch if they are loading it with a tractor/backhoe bucket and it will sit the truck down a little but its fine, i have even hauled 2.5 ton pallets of limestore rocks and the truck run normal, basically its all in your instinct if you feel like it can then do it if not then take two trips, just air up the back tires before or right after you load it with weight.

I just hauled a pallet of 16"x16" Sidewalk stones. 15lbs each, 70 stones total. That was 1050lbs total or a little over a half ton. The truck squatted pretty good and had a little rear sway going on. My truck is a 05 Lariat Scab 6.5' bed and 4x4. I had no problem with speed though. Still could run 55-60 without a problem. Braking was a little different.

Our township lets us pick it up for free (well not really free, our property taxes are thru the roof...) anyway, I have loaded the bed full several times w/NO problem....

Thanks for all the replys. I fell better about hauling it now. Was alittle worried since the last time I hauled mulch I was having trouble in the Sport Trac that I had. The guy loading it said that the bed should hold 2 yards. It held it, but I had a hard time driving. Rear bumper was close to the ground and every time I hit a bump, i clould hear my exhaust pipes scraping on the leaf springs.
I'll try it and see what happens. Thanks.

I currently have 2 yds of cedar mulch that is pretty wet in the bed of my truck. The drop hitch ball is a bit low and hits now on some steep driveways. But other than that, it's fine.
