2/2.5" Leveling Kit Summary
2/2.5" Leveling Kit Summary
There is so much interest and so many questions about leveling kits throughout these forums that it seems like I've spent days trying to read all the threads. I've done it because, like many, I'm considering doing these mods to my 04 F150 CrewCab (2.5" AS, 1-1/2" AAL, 35" tires). I have no personal experience with these mods but I've tried to gather many of the common questions and answers that have been posted here in one place for two reasons. One, so you guys can correct me if I have some misunderstandings, and two, so other members can find this summary when they are researching these mods. It may save some time. I apologize for the lengthy thread but hopefully it will serve some benefit to the community.
Here is my summary of 2"/2.5" leveling kits: (please correct me if I misquote something, you guys are the experts)
1) It levels the stance of the truck so the front sits as high as the back(some may end up slightly front-high, some may not).
2) Can be combined with a rear add-a-leaf for even taller rear stance/load leveling/etc.
3) Allows for up to a 35"x12.5" wide tire on an OEM spec wheel
4) Allows for wider tires with correct backspacing on aftermarket wheels(tires may stick out from under wheel wells).
5) Technically, would tend to wear certain front susp components quicker than stock, but real world experience (from you guys) shows no drastic changes in wear.
6) 2.5" spacer is the max recommended or you will definitely increase chances of front susp wear (see discussions on Skyjacker 3" lift in these forums).
7) Some kits install on top of coilover(AS), some require disassembly of coilover(Daystar).
8) Does not require longer shock.
9) Does require (highly suggested at least) a front end alignment after install.
10) Often installed by owner with basic tools, rather than requiring professional install.
11) More economical than full out lift kits (Around $100 vs. $1800)
12) Can be removed to go back to stock set up. (most lifts require some cutting of brackets)
13) Should not affect stock ride feel or handling (until you put on the bigger tires)
14) Will affect your warranty on a case by case basis. Depends on your dealership.
Well, if you made it this far, thanks for bearing with me. Again, I have no personal experience with these mods. Just trying to summarize for my own sake and see if I understand all the great information you all have provided me. So please correct me if I'm wrong and add anything you feel might be helpful with this summary. Thanks a lot.

Looks to be a great "distillation" of information.

Probably has the first model of the spacer. The new version you can buy now corrects any prior issues, correct?
Just what I heard and read so far.
