Fuel gauge acting funny
Fuel gauge acting funny
A couple of weeks ago my check engine light came on and I ran the code on the edge and got the code P0461. That has something to do with the fuel level circuit. I reset the code and everything is fine. Today I stop for gas and when I get back in the truck the fuel gauge doesn't move. After a few miles it drops below the E and the computer reads "--" miles until empty. I run the diagnostic on the edge again and it gives me the code P0463. I get home disconnect the battery, wait a few minutes and reconnect. Now the fuel gauge is working. Any ideas as to what is going on?
I got back in it the truck this morning and gauge wasnt working again.
I looked up code P0463 on the net and this is what i found: P0463 Fuel Level Sensor Circuit High Input.
Has anyone had this happen before? Does anyone know where this sensor is located?

Don't drop the tank just yet. Get a bottle of red line fuel conditioner and put it into the tank. The high sulfer content is causing the sensor to give a false reading. Very common problem in corvettes also. You should be able to find it at Advanced Auto Parts stores. Also try staying away from the gas you are using. Try using Chevron. You can also use Techron in a bottle. Red line worked for me. Good Luck.
I had the same problem and it was just bad gas. I stopped going to the station that I was going to b/f and I keep conditioner in the tank with every fill up, and no problems since.

I too have had either a gas fairy or a gas thief lately in the morning I will drive to work with about 1/3 of a tank of gas and by mid-afternoon it goes down to 1/4, same thing happens all the way through the tank. Last week I filled up with gas because my truck flashed the "low fuel" light, I pumped in 19 gallons of gas to fill up my 26 gal tank. I still had 6-7 gallons of gas in the thing and the light goes off and the fuel gage was on "E" What is the dealio?
I plan on taking it to ford but would like to know if i am alone with this matter.
My 05' only has 8,500 miles on her

I have a bottle of lucas cleaner here at home, I guess I will try that. I am already using chevron gas now. Maybe I will try a new station.
