All of those wanting the Saleen Hood...

I contacted Saleen just to see if they were selling the hood and got this for a response... (get out your credit card for this one)

Hey Danielle!

We currently have the hood available, it comes unfinished and requires a small amount of prep work. It retails for 2899.99 It doesn’t work with the standard front fascia and requires the one used on the S331. That fascia retails at 499.99and is currently not available but should be within the next month. If you have any further questions please feel free to contact me. Thanks for your interest in Saleen!

What planet are these guys on? That is so freaking retarded. They obviously have NOT taken any econ courses at a college level (or calculus for that matter) to learn how to set pricing for optimal profit. Honestly, who in their right mind would ever buy that? Maybe .001% of F150 owners? IF that?

Foolish....

I think thats the whole point. . they don't want anyone else who doesn't have a S331 to have one. How much do you want to bet, if you gave them your VIN number so they could make sure you had a S331, you could get one cheaper.

Regardless, I don't understand why it won't work with the stock front fascia off the top of my head anyways. I guess I need to go dig up the pictures and see for myself.

There's got to be a typo or something in that response you got. That, or to Saleen, you ask for a hood, it comes w/ matching fenders.

Saleen doesnt wanna sit there and sell all there parts, for aftermarkets. Atleast not this soon. If they sold the stuff for a realistic price then everyone would buy the hood, facia, emblems, ect..ect... and you'd have so many fake one's out there that it would kind of take away from the real deal. Every S/C 5.4 would wanna hang a s331 badge, and try and pose as the real deal. Shoooot! It's what I'd do!

I didn't mean to imply that you made the typo. I was thinking more like the sales guy made the mistake. It's a habit I have from work. Sales guys always make the mistake that we field guys have to correct.

Like Thump said...if you could buy the parts cheap and build one yourself why would you buy a real Saleen? Try buying a real Firehawk hood from SLP without a VIN number...you can't. I suspect the only reason they even offer them is for collision replacment purposes...(BTW now you know why insurance is so high on limited edition vehicles like this.) Remember she contacted them and asked for a price...they aren't advertising them for sale to the general public, so dont fault them because you feel the price is high.

I could see your point on this if all of their mustang parts were this ridiculously overpriced as well. The mustang hood cost $900. So that leads me to believe that something isn't right.

I see what you are trying to say about people buying parts instead, but, you have to realize there is a middle ground that would work better.

Even at moderate prices it would still cost more to buy the truck in pieces instead of getting a Saleen from the get-go already built. I guarantee that if you take the prices like the ones suggest above and added all of the parts prices up it would far exceed what Saleen charges for the difference between a normal F150 and a factory built Saleen.

Also, Saleen is a business... they don't exist so they can supply a limited number of trucks because it is special to them, but so they can make money. I guarantee you that 99.9% of F150 buyers would never consider a Saleen model truck, however I would say a sizeable chunk would consider buying a part here or there that fits their taste.

I for one would never buy the Saleen brand new even if I had the money- it's not how I would like a truck. I want custom stuff put together the way I like it- as do the majority of people who mod their vehicles. That said, there are also people that would love to have a Saleen just so they could say they have a real Saleen...those same people are still going to buy them regardless.

All I am saying is that I guarantee Saleen is leaving money on the table by charging such absorbent prices for individual pieces. Saleen is being foolish not tapping into the aftermarket PART market with parts already developed IMO
