30K service for over $260???

I called my local dealership and asked about the 30K service. He said that I had to have fuel filter replaced ($65), oil change and filter (44.95), tires rotated($20), new air filter($35), change transmission fluid (99.95), and a complete system inspection (complimentary!!! YAY). Needless to say i did not schedule and instead did everything but the transmission fluid change myself. I spent a total of about $70 for everything, including the fuel filter tool, and about 2 hours of my time.

Never changed the fuel filter before and had trouble getting the end closest to the motor off, but had no problem getting the other end off. In the thread that talked about changing the fuel filter, it was not clear on how to remove the most forward end of the filter. I pushed on the "J" piece in the middle for a while. By accident i pushed on the end of the J where it connects to the fuel filter and bam...it came right off. So push on the end to get it off easily and quickly!

The transmission fluid change the dealership wanted to do was to drain the fluid and replace the filter. I'm not confident enough to do this at home...is it really required? My tranny shifts fine so i'm leaning toward letting it go...

Changing the transmission fluid and filter is no different than changing the engine oil out on your truck. Save the $$.

I believe these F150's take Mercon V... just make sure it's the correct fluid and the correct amount, which by the way, is located in the handy-dandy owners manual.

Besides, a case of mercon v only costs but about $20 bucks at most. Why give the stealership more of your hard earned money.

at 30k, there's no way I would change the tranny fluid. Depending on how hard you drive IE....do you pull a trailer a lot, or carry a lot of weight around? I would n't think about it until at least 50k, and if your truck is like most, and used as a daily driver with nothing in the bed, I would wait until 75k....maybe even longer.

That is steep. I would consider a transmission fluid flush and filter change. For what the trucks cost and how long you keep it, it's money well spent. That's just me.... I don't tow all that much, but a lot of climbing (sea level to 9000'). I wouldn't have it done at the dealer, though.....
My wife has a Benz, and they want about $400 for essentially an oil change!

44 bucks for the oil change is a rip off I had mine done yesterday it cost me 28.95 plus tax which came to a little over 31 bucks that was 7 quarts of 5w20 oil and a filter at my local Ford dealership. I would do mine own but my apartment complex has a rule about doing auto maintance on the poperty.

I try to do all my maint. stuff as i try to save money and plus i have the satisfaction that i know it was done right and if it wasn't then I only have myself to blame. I think I will wait until 50K miles or so for the tranny service because I only haul a ski boat during the summer months.

My dealership pulled up the scheduled maintenance, and told me that the tranny flush was not required, and if i am a normal driver, not to do it and save the money. I got my 30k service for $88 at my local dealer.

Check your owners manual, I don't remember when the tranny flush is suggested.

260 is a steal. In Virginia the local ford deals charge between 350-550 for the 30K service.

I still think the dealers are screwing all of us.... according to the Scheduled Maintenance Guide we are not supposed to change the transmission fluid at 30,000 miles....unless you have the 4R100. All others you just check the fluid levels!

They stopped using the 4R100 Transmission in 2003.

I'm at 29.4K and wondering what I should do...

Please correct me if I'm wrong...
