Alarm systems

With all the discussions about trucks getting broke into it is probably a wise man who has an alarm system on his truck. Well lets just say I'm not a wise man.....yet.

What is the recommended alarm system out there? Viper? Code alarm? I'm not worried about remote start, but if the price isn't bad I wouldn't mind adding it as well. Also for those that bought the alarm and that ha da shop install it, what did you pay for installation? I am trying to sell my old wheels & tires right now and as soon as I do the money will be put towards an alarms sytem.

Thanks

I have the new Compustar Pro series starter and alarm. It is the best on the market right now, and within a month or so it will be even better.

I have to give props to Travis as well. I didn't buy mine from him. I had my code alarm 670 installed from a local stereo shop before i heard about Travis. I watched BIGBLACKFX4 install his. The instructions are extremely easy, and Travis himself was on the phone with BIGBLACKFX4 Late at night for a programming question. You just don't get this kind of service everyday. In fact, i took his instructions back to the shop that installed mine, and made them rewire it to Travis's instructions. I have not had a problem since. I wish i would of started at www.kcautosounds.com first!

I have heard very good things about this one, may be the way to go. I checked with a couple local shops and they carry the Excalibur brand, not sure how good that one is though.

Hearing very good things about Travis and KCautosounds as well. So many decisions, guess when it boils right down to it, they all pretty much function the same way.

JUST DO IT! You won't regret it. Call him, you will see why he's got his reputation here.

Alright I'm thinking about the CA670 with remote start. On KC Autosound I can get it pre-wired for $246.35 shipped. If I go with a remote start I will also have to purchase the transponder bypass module correct (another $45)?

Another question I have is how much of a difference do pre-wired units make when it comes to installation price? I do not plan to do the installation myself because I really don't want to mess with my trucks wiring and I want to ensure it's done correctly so I will have a local shop do the installation.

The reason I'm asking is because I have found several sites that sell the CA670 with remote start for far cheaper than KC Autosounds. I have found it brand new in the box for as low as $124 shipped on ebay and other sites that have it for $133.83 shipped. I'm figuring between $100 - $200 for install so if I can save $100 on the purchase then that's substantial. Just wanted to check with some guys that may have more knowledge than I do about these things though. Thanks

Some of these site's are probably selling the code alarm 670 with the internal shock sensor. YOU DON"T WANT THAT! Unless you don't like your neighbors... Mine was going off in the wee hours of the morning. This is why you want someone like Travis that know's what he is selling, and he stands behind what he sells. I had a very repitable stereo shop here install mine, if i could turn back the clock, i would of saved about $200.00 and alot of early morning false alarms.....

give some thought into this:

www.neverstolen.com

I'm thinking of getting this for my 07 expy. Since we will be adding wheels and other aftermaket components. I think as long as they can't drive off with your vehicle to "strip" it somewhere safe, this might be a good option. Installation and the device is $400.00. Obviously if somebody wants you $#!t bad enough it won't help, but you really can't drive off with the vehicle. It won't prevent broken glass, vandelism or just plain pulling out subs and radios if the vehicle is in a bad area.

Is it called something else because I can find no internal shock sensor in the listing of functions. Doesn't mean it doesn't have though. Is that something that can simply be disabled?

Just remember....you get what you pay for. I don't think Travis actaully charges anything to pre-wire the system. He does it to make it easy for installation. If you were to buy one from eBay, who are you going to turn to when and if you have problems? Is the seller an actual Code Alarm dealer or distributer? What about warranty issues from a seller on eBay? Travis will bend over backwards to help you. Just give him a call - tell him what you want and he will tell you exactly what you need.

Just my two cents, but good luck whatever you decide.

Yeah it states on the site that it's free pre-wiring for Fords. That is probably a good thing.

Probably the main reason if I decide on the CA670 I will go with Travis. Even though it's more expensive, like my dad used to say "You buy junk, you own junk." Customer service and having someone there for warranty issues is a good thing to have when you need it.

Just my two cents, but good luck whatever you decide.
May just have to do that, just need to make sure that one of the local shops around here have no problem installing the CA670.
