I run the cable, plug it into the back of the Edge, turn on the ignition, plug it into the connector and I see a green screen prompting to press Enter to accept the terms or whatever. I press the Enter key and the unit powers off. I think WTF so I tap it and it comes back on. Then it tap it gently again and it powers off. Ok, so I got a bad one. I've contacted Discount Powerparts about returning it for a good one. Bummer, I was looking forward to experimenting this weekend.

 

Just heard from Patrick at DiscountPowerParts. He indicated they'll ship one tomorrow. Glad to see quick, friendly customer service still exists.

I got one last week and the same thing happened. I did not have the cable plugged in good enough to the edge. I have not had any problems since then.

 

May be my faulty memory, but seems like you are supposed to have the key on when you plug it in.

 

First thing I thought was a loose cable. Checked all the connections and tried again. If I very gingerly pushed the buttons I could get through the menu options. I was able to get it to read my PCM but if I bumped the pod at all it would go off. I think there is a loose connection inside the unit or maybe something shorting out. Not a big deal - I can wait a few days to start me addiction.

 

Yeah that's too bad, but it's better to be patient with tuners.

 

anyone have trouble downloading the lightning software from edge? I can't get it to download...

 

That will also happen if you dont have enough voltage coming from your battery. Pretty much if you dont have full battery capacity it will freeze up on you.

 

Did you try the cd to install the Lightning s/w ?

 

I didn't try to install the software. The unit had a manufacture date of 3/21/07 so I figured it had the latest and greatest version. I'll try the software when I get my replacement unit.

 

You have any firewall software running? If so, you need to turn it off. I know Norton is a big offender and causes problems.
