Pioneer Avic D2 Installed
Pioneer Avic D2 Installed
I was asked about some pictures in another thread. So, rather than hijack that thread... here is a picture, some background info, and a link to more pictures:

There are more pictures here. It was dark when I took these photos, so they aren't the best. I'll try to take some more tomorrow during the day.
I got this about two months ago. Circuit City had it on sale for half off plus free installation. They did use a dash kit to fill out the double din slot, but I think it looks really nice. I was looking at getting the factory navigation unit, which is made by Pioneer, but then I found out about the sale. To be honest, I believe that the only differences between this one and the factory unit are cosmetic, the factory is a 6-disc in dash, and of course the factory will integrate w/ rear seat entertainment systems easier. I don't have the entertainment system and having a 6-disc in dash changer wasn't a big deal. I usually load an MP3 disc w/ 12 to 13 albums, so it's like having a 12 disc changer if you think about it. Plus there are a few auxilary inputs so I can add a CD changer, a DVD player, both, XM, Sirus, or an ipod if I want to change things up.
I'll admit that I was saving up for a Avic Z1, but for the price, this one fit (pun intended) quite nicely.

I don't remember exactly what I paid for it. It was on sale for 900 plus free installation (another 200 bucks saved)
. This unit normally sold for 1500
.
It does have Navigation. I took some more pictures today w/ the map showing. I'll load them soon... the batteries died in the camera.

Here's a picture showing the navigation screen:

I use the navigation all the time in DC. Here I just left Georgetown, crossed the Key Bridge, and am headed back to the office. I added a few more pictures to the gallery.
My truck just turned over 37K, and I just realized that I started modding back in September, or at 30K (I just had the 30K service done so it stuck in my mind). Man, 7 months, 7,000 miles and I've added an Airaid CAI, AS 2.5" leveling kit, Reese tow hitch, Moto Metal 951s, BFG 305/65R18s, Pocket Style Fender Flares, Pioneer Avic D2, and Weather Techs. And this weekend, I'll be installing another mod... if you can call it a mod. I'm putting the infant carrier base back in. Son # 2 is due any day now. My rear seat will look like a brochure photo for Graco

Thanks. Installation was free too. They claimed that it was a 200 dollar value.

Good choice, I have had an Avic D2 in my truck for almost a year now and it has performed flawlessly. As far as the map, it is never really 3D but in some areas it gives an incredibly detailed 2D map that looks really nice. Here is mine

sweet! i have the same head unit! if you need to find the bypass for it, go to avic411.com...all you need to do is add an extra ground wire to the harness in the open slot and ground the ebrake wire. that way you can use nav functions while you drive (the way it should have been) and also view video when driving.
theyre great head units, im waiting for the d3 to come out!
