Shortening Access Bed Cover
Shortening Access Bed Cover
Has anybody shortened their Access Roll-up bed cover? I want to install a toolbox in my truck, but don't want to have to buy a new cover or go without one. It was hard enough to find one I liked for my flareside. Just wondering if the end bow can be disassembled, the material and side rails cut down, and all put back together and attached to a toolbox.
Yup.
I did that. Went from a 6.5 ft box to a 5.5 ft box.
Fugured I'd give it a try; if I effed it up, just go get a new one - the old one didn't really owe me anything.
As it turned out, it worked just fine.
IMPORTANT - measure three times, cut once. Go a little longer if you are not sure.
Disassemble.
Cut the front portion of the material, not the back.
Take the thing to an auto upholstery shop to get the bead stitched back in, or just use marine contact adhesive, very short SS screws, and a thin strip of aluminum stock to secure the material to the front bar.
Cut to shorten the rails @ the front. Drill new holes in them for the adjusters.
Remount, readjust & you are in bidness.
