backup lights

well, i spent most of today trying to get my new backup lights ready, and turned them on and they worked. I still have to finish to ground wires and get the switch mounted. Also, i need to figure out how to run the power wire safetly around the engine compartment so it will not get in the way of anything hot or moving. However, at least they work.
I got a few pics, and will promise to have more tomorrow of the overall setup and a few night shots.
i would recommend this for anyone who hates not being able to see when backing up a night....it lights up the area.

Also, i feel more attached to my truck now since i lost blood over it and i had to partically hug and squeeze around the engine trying to get the wire back though the grommet.

i would love to get you some night shots....but i cant right now. i just rigged it up so i could turn it on once and then i taped off every loose connector so it wouldnt short. its too dark/late to go try and get them undone and hooked back up. I will promise to get those night pictures tomorrow.

I just bought this adapter and plugged them into my trailer plug.

Made it a 10 minute job but they only work while in reverse.

I have been thinkging about back up lights as well. My goal was to tap into the trailering wires, but that product saves me the work I guess. Just another mod to add to the list...

I also added better back-up lights...got Hella driving lights that came with a relay. Tapped off the trailer harness for power to the lights, and spliced into the Black w/ Pink Stripe reverse lamp wires to energize the relay. Tucked the relay into a void space behind the left rear taillight assembly, so it's out of the weather.

I would not add extra lights powered by the reverse light circuit...it's only a 10A fuse (14) and will not handle too much additional wattage. Use a relay and find power off the trailer harness.

At the same time I did this mod, I took out the normal reverse lights and converted to Amber rear turn signals (in place of the normal reverse lights). It was a little tricky, but with the help of my Wiring Diagram, all worked out well. I know the guys with F150's in Europe had to convert to Amber rear signals, but I'd guess I'm the only one in the States! So if you see me signalling Amber for a turn, give a HONK!!

Looks good.
I just wish there were a way to hide the lamps a little more.

Thanks Budha...I was thinking of mounting in the bumper, but that was too high on the PITA scale, so I just made brackets and hung them. But they still make it look like a truck, so I'm happy with the installation!

budha....i actually like the new look of the rear of the truck. The lights make it look good in my opinion

here are the night pictures i promised to get...sry they arent the best, but the camera didnt like me over riding the flash

These lights will really help in backing up. It really illuminated everything behind me.

Just the lights on

just reverse, sry for the bluriness in this one (not as bright as it seems in the picture )

Reverse and the lights

looking at them (not as bright in picture as they actually are, they are so bright it hurts to look at them directly)

That's what I'm thinking....a little further back from the bumper to hide them but still get some nice illumination.
