would it mess up the break pad if the paint got on the rotor where it spins... or did you tape it off?

No I didn't tape off, just sprayed right on, trying to keep as much as I could off the rotor. In my years of doing so I have never taped off the rotor and have never had any ill effects from not doing so, it all rubs off before your out of the driveway. To me its no different then driving through mud over your brakes it all rubs off just the same.
