Engine warm hard start
Engine warm hard start
So I went to test drive a 97 Yukon for my parents yesterday, and me and the seller were talking about trucks, both GM and Ford. I noted how my F150 drives much smoother than the 97 Yukon. He said he had not driven an 04+ F150, I mentioned they drove almost like a car. I guess in short I was mildly bragging. Well it turned out to bite me in the ****. I went to leave after the test drive, went to start the truck. The first attempt didnt start, second attempt sounded bad. It started(somewhat), but stuttered and stumbled like it was running on 4 cylinders, then shut off. I tried a third time, and it started and ran ok after a minute or two. The guy was watching the entire time as a basically brand new F150 wouldnt start.
This is happening more frequently, but has done this(only rarely) since the truck was new. Of course the dealer cannot duplicate the problem. Has anyone resolved this. This cannot be good for the truck. It sounds like the truck is flooded when it tries to start, and it takes a couple tries to burn some of the excess fuel. Until the excess fuel is burned it runs rough. My fear is that an injector is stuck open occasionally leaking fuel into the cylinder. I know these injectors are prone to failure, but I dont want this happen while the truck is running and hydrolock a cylinder. Plus the excess fuel cannot be good for the rings/cylinder walls. Anyone know how to pinpoint and prove a failing injector??

There are a couple of injector test that they can do. The one i recommend is that they pull the plugs and let it set overnight and check which ones are leaking. Sometimes they leak within minutes, sometimes overnight.
