Did I buy a lemon?

Hey Guys,

I purchased a '04 FX4 - all BLACK -SuperCrew. What is the diagnosis of these issues:
  1. Upon acceleration I can ease off the gas - then reapply to engage the engine and I get a "thud" every so often from the transmission.
  2. Driver's door has a short in it after 3-4" of opening. Once fully opened the controls (door locks/window buttons) do not work.
  3. The back sliding window doesn't work.

Any advice or suggestions are appreciated. Great to be here!

well the power rear window wont work if it isnt used about once a week, and the thud was supposedly fixed by a reflash of the computer. my truck had that on the carfax when i bought it and i have never had a clunk at all. i dont know about the short though sorry.

A lemon isn't a vehicle with three or more different issues. It's a vehicle that has had the same problem over and over.

definition:
vehicle that has a substantial problem that isn't fixed within a reasonable number of attempts, or that has had a certain number of days out of service.

Is your back sliding glass automatic or manual?

sounds like you need to go to the dealer and get the pcm reflashed, get the door wiring checked out- thats not right. the rear windows have had some issues- explain more about your problem and i might be able to help- either way, there are 1 or 2 tsb's on the rear slider and that can be fixed too.

as for the diesel when you start- all of the 5.4's are pretty noisy on startup- this is normal. do you know you have the cam phaser problem??

Thanks guys...that's the type of responses I need. I almost traded her off for an Outlaw F250 but I'll try and get her fixed up.

**BTW, I have 18" factory rims.. so what's the tallest tire I can put on those rims.

with a leveling kit you can put some 35's on there- click my sig to get to my gallery (RKTEKTR) and you will find pics of 33x12.5's on stock, and my current 35x12.5's on stock...

the problems you seem to be having are minor in the scheme of the new body style- especially with you holding an 04. get em fixed up and the truck's gonna grow on you! welcome to the forum

if your rear slider is working every once in a while, but seems to be making alot of squeaky noises- you could recommend the dealer look into TSB 05-24-03 "Rear Window Squeaks and Rattles"

Is it noisy on startup only after sitting a while? Might be a oil filter with a crappy anti-drainback valve. Something like a Fram. These need a good anti-drainback or they are noisy.

Did you buy a Lemon..., No, it looks like you bought a used truck. How many miles on it? Is there any warranty left???

my transmission made the same thud, until it decided to commit suicide. up to that point the dealership gave me the old can't replicate the problem,or that noise is normal. after they rebuilt the tranny the problem was even worse. the thud is gone now because i got rid of the truck and got an f-350.
