remote start
remote start
Hey, I am buying a 2004 or newer f150 lariat supercab. A salesman is really trying to push his truck because it has remote start installed which i want. He says it would cost at least $400 to put it on a truck. Just wondering if anyone else has had remote start put on, how much it cost and if you can buy less expensive aftermarket kits. I had a 1995 explorer which i bought a kit for and installed in a few hours myself for like $70, but i know the new F150 aleady come with keyless entry and have a lot more complicated computers, thanks for any help and input - James
Mine was $220 dealer installed. Its the Code Alarm with Keyless entry and remote start, and they did it while I waited (about 1 hr). So ya $400 is a little high without out the alarm.
BTW: the kit costs $135 at the dealer. If I could do it over again, I would have installed the kit my self. Don't like being able to see the taps between the column and the wheel, but oh well.

the only way id pay $400 is if it had a 2 way paging alarm and remote start with the lcd screen
when i worked for the shop, we charged 263 for the remote start and keyless and 399 for the remote start/ security lcd

My 04 FX4 has Ford factory remote start. I was having issues with it(truck would not start with key, you had to use the remote start) went back to the dealer and they tried to tell me it was a cheap aftermarket system, was put in wrong, I need a re flash, blah blah blah
When I found my paperwork and proved it was a Ford system that they had installed then all of a sudden it wasn't a big deal and they fixed it for free in like ten minutes! I was p*&%#@!
Anyway, If I could do it over I wouldn't waste the money since I never use my remote start. The keyless entry on the other hand I use every time I get in the truck.
BTW- if it is already installed on a used truck it really has no retail value as far as the truck price. Don't be talked into paying extra for the truck just to get that!

I paid $150 for a brand new Ungo alarm on ebay, with aftermarket 20/20 actuators, and paid $50 bucks for the bypass module, then paid $15 for a blank, non-programmed key. Get in good with your parts guy and he'll sell it no problem. Some want to charge you for programming it, even though they aren't going to. Used to install stuff at a shop so me and another guy installed it. Got the wiring diagram from www.the12volt.com
I would say its high for just a remote start. Especially since you can get a remote start system for around $50 by itself.
