Best headlight bulbs

I want my headlights to be white bright. I saw one guy that had a HALO around his lights which I thought was pretty cool. What are the best way to go? I'm not rich so I can't fork out too much money but I'd really like to replace them to have that white bright look and maybe even the halo. Any ideas? Thanks

I just installed the HALO headlights -- the leak like a sieve thusfar. I'm already in the process of changing them out...

But, to speak to your comment... yes, they are pretty darn neat. I've had oodles of head snaps looking back at me already - and they've only been on the truck for 72 hours.

I continue, however, to recommend Silverstar headlights. While they're not 'HID' white, they offer a KILLER output and are far better than any 'white' bulb that you'll find out there. The white bulbs, in my opinion, are inferior when it comes to light output and actually offering what a light bulb is meant to do -- ie: give off light.

Now, if you're talking true HID, that's a different 'white bulb' type of story...

man those look so bad ***. Don't like them though huh? I LOVE THE HALO look. So HID's are different than projectors? HID's are xenon if I'm not mistaken. What kind of price difference am I looking at to go HID over what you got?

Think I got a good idea.

HIDs are expensive to get a good set.

Projectors are kewl and you can get the HALO look if you want

Cheapest way to go is silverstar if all you want is the WHITE look.

Bout some it up? What Silverstars should I get for the headlamps?

Silverstars are going to run you $20ish per bulb. HID, to do it right and not glare the absolute hell out of everyone that is approaching you, is going to cost substantially more because you're going to need to retrofit a housing to get the optics right. You see, there aren't any headlight assemblies out there that are specifically made to project HID light -- they're made for regular bulbs.

We've all seen them on the road... the headlights that are glaring out every which way and are nearly blinding. That's the scenario that you'll probably create by going with HID in a non-HID housing. To convert to a HID housing -- by using a projector set out of a true HID set (see F150Duke's setup), you're looking at probably closer to a thousand bucks -- to do it and do it right.

I love the Halos that I have but, unfortunately, they've leaked some water. The ebay retailer that I bought them from seems to be working with me on getting it taken care of at this point...

Hey RP,

Are those HALO lights built for a HID bulb (i.e. lexus housing)? Didn't quite understand the description.

Are these lights a direct replacement? Or is there aditional wiring involved. Are they alot brighter then stock?

I think he ordered the wrong headlight. He ordered the "MAKO" lights instead of the "HALO"s. They have little fishies swiming around inside of them.

HID's: kinda pricey and require some installation skills! but, they do have a nice output!
Sylvania Silverstars: very bright and white especially for direct P-N-P OEM replacements, and a fraction of the cost compared to HID's.
aftermarket housings: I am now totally against most aftermarket head/taillights!
WHY?
because majority of them have one or more of the following problems, leaking/fogging - due to bad seals or strange fixtures
odd size bulbs - they use different bulbs sizes other than OE, requiring you to dismantle the whole light assembly to change out the bulbs
Halos - need to splice into other wiring to make these work and drains power from that line
fit and finish - most fixtures don't seat correctly like they slant or they leave odd gaps, but my main grumble with fit and finish would be when they use the phrase "USES OEM FIXTURES/BULBS..." yah but they don't lock in place tightly and aren't sealed aproprietely.

Sorry that I'm kinda venting, and forcing my opinion on you guys all at the same time... this is all just my opinion though! And i have dealt with all variations first hand!!

Lovin the info. Do the Silverstars fit tight? I'm pretty sure I'm going to order the silverstars as long as their are no major problems with them. Gotta tell ya though, those HALO's look so cool. Only problem is I can't really think of anytime people would actually see them, at dusk my lights are on and before that they aren't. In the daytime they couldn't see them anyways. Doh... I'd want to just drive around with only halo's on at night, lol.

silverstars for the win so far.

I'm using LUKS Hyper White Bulbs on my headlights and my fogs. You should see the beautiful white light it produces. It's better than any brand iv'e ever used, but he's right these bulbs dont produce much light at all. If your going for the look i get compliments on my light's all the time, yet if you do off-road driving at night you may encounter problems.

so what kind of drop in output are we talking. I mean sometimes I'll be taking trips on interstate parts that do not have lighting. How much dimmer are they? Not drivable without other lighting? And do these silverstars or the HUKs replace both the high and low beams?

Tough to say, but you can notice them being a bit dimmer than stock. Actually the darker the road is; the better you can see with these lights. And yes they do have them for both the headlights and the fogs which i do drive with both of them on and see alot more.
