When to use 4wd
When to use 4wd
Will be getting an 07 lariat 4x4 this month. My last truck was a 2000 Chev with an all wheel drive setting and a 4wd setting. The awd was fine for both dry rd and most slippery conditions. It would not damage anything if run on dry road. It was great for rds with intermittent ice and snow.
I was reading a download copy of the 07 f150 manual and it states not to run 4wd on dry rds or it could cause damage. I'm a little nervouse now as up here in Canada, the road can be dry now, icy/snowdrift 10 yds down the road, and back again. Can anyone say if running 4wd in this type of condition
would be a problem
Thanks
you will be fine in that operation- you don't wan't to have 4wd engaged in situations where you will be running on completely dry roads, and making turns. 4wd works on the principle that it is expecting one or more tires to be slipping this way the front isn't over powering the rear and vice versa... but as long as you are going fairly straight, you wont hurt it...
