True Dual Cost Question

I priced having true duals done on my truck and was quoted $330 without the X pipe. He said it would be $200 if I bought the mufflers and x-pipe myself. Does this sound reasonable for flowmaster 40's? Also, those of you that have this setup, did you use 3'' pipe or 2.5'' pipe. I would appreciate suggestions. Thanks

This is the setup I am looking to get, maybe with some polished rolled tip stainless 4'' tips, 18'' long. I'm th
inking of going with a magnaflow x-pipe insteat of a homemade one.

Thanks for all the input, I just picked up 2 flowmaster 40 standard (loudest in series), magnaflow x-pipe, and 2 4'' polished stainless magnaflow tips, 12'' long for $245 on ebay. now if I can get a good deal on installation, I'll have a long lasting setup for reasonable!!!

I thought those pics looked familiar!

Since you've seen that thread you should have seen that I paid $275 after being quoted $375.

If I understand what you've said, so far you've dropped $245 for the parts (minus pipes) and the guy you talked to said the install would be $200 if you brought those parts. Did the $330 quote include everything except the x-pipe? If thats the case, I probably would have looked to buy just an x-pipe to bring in and see if they'd do the whole thing for $350-375. Right now you're looking at a total price of ~$450 (245 for parts, 200 for installation) correct?

Yeah, I hope you didn't mind me using them. Really is nice work. $330 was for everything but the x-pipe. However, thats not with the flowmasters. He said he didn't carry them because they were too high, he stocks something like the flowmaster, like an off brand. I like the flowmasters and the sound of your truck, so thats what I bought. The $200 quote was with me suppling the mufflers and x-pipe, NO tips. I think I might know a guy that would do the welding and pipes for $100 labor. So if I got out that way I would have about $350, which is my goal. I can't wait to get my parts, should be here late next week. Thanks for the help.

Oh and did you go with 3'' pipe, because thats what I bought my mufflers tips and x-pipe for, the 3'' pipe.

Yeah man, no problem...

Ok, sounds like you've done your homework and are going about this in a good way. If you can get out the door for only 350, that would be a great deal.

I'm pretty sure my guy used 2.5" pipe.

BTW, what kind of engineer are you?

I spent $300 for my true duals with stainless tips and Flowmaster Original mufflers but my girlfriend's brother works at an exhaust shop so that did help a little. I'd stick with 2-1/4" - 2-1/2" tubing though.

Here is my set-up. .

I always like to research well before I spend what little bit of money I do have Well it looked like 3'' pipe in the pic but it's hard to tell. Will that matter since I've already got mufflers and x-pipe with 3'' in and outs. Can you use 2.5'' pipe with that? Anyways, I'm a fire engineer/ driver-operator for our local Fire Dept. Thanks guys for the help.

they can flare the 2.5 out to 3"- especially if its a 4.6- i would not go larger than 2.5" i went 2.25 on my 5.4 but i need maximum tq-also 2.25" is plenty for the mustang gt's-phil:
