Brake Fluid All Over The Place, And Pedal To The Floor!!
Brake Fluid All Over The Place, And Pedal To The Floor!!
Pics to come...
Saturday night I parked at a friends house, and got out of the truck, and thought that someone had been driving a nitro rc car, cuz it smalt like that, not thinking it was brake fluid.. So we drive to another friends house 30 mins away, park, and the same smell. at this time I was likek what the hell is in the air.. LOL Later on we head home, and on the way, I hit the brake, and the pedal goes to the floor, the truck would still stop, but it would take a while.. Every stop I made, that same smell would blow through the vents.. Then I was like what is going on.. I decided to just drive home, take it easy, and use the e brake since it was late, and no traffic.. 5 mins from the house the low brake fluid warning comes on, luckily im passing a walmart. I get out, pop the hood, and there is brake fluid all over, I cant see cuz its dark, I buy the fluid, and fill the master cylinder, park the truck, and go to sleep.. Next morning I take a look at it, and find out that the IDIOTS who I had install my 2.5" spacers pulled the brake line out of the clips, and ran it right along where the steering shaft was.. In turn the steering shaft was rubbing a hole in the brake line.. It took 1 year, and 4 months for the line to give out..
I fixed the problem by having a company fab a brake line to the measurements I provided, and it worked out great.. I had to bleed all the brake lines, which was a good idea anyway, cuz the fluid was pretty dirty..
Anyway, for all of you runninng that setup, and did not do the install yourselfs, I would recommend you go take a look at your brake lines..

For Gods sake!!!!! This is the sort of post I crave! Informative. Helpful and preemptive. The polar opposite of 50% of the idiotic posts on the first page alone!
“Let’s hear it for all the purple and orange F150’s out there”……”Why can’t my truck go faster than 100mph”, ….”I washed my fargin truck, here are the pics”…..Seriously, WTF! Total waste of space. There should be a separate forum for this sort of dribble for all it does is clutter up the forum and make it difficult for those with an ounce of sense to find helpful tips.
TXF150 --> THANK YOU !! I don’t have any spacers, but you discovered a problem and posted it here for all to learn from. BRAVO! Oh, and you also seem to have a grasp of the English language, know how to use punctuation and spell checker. Again BRAVO!!!
I wish some of the others here would take a lesson from you.
Okay, I’m through venting.

I have been driving on a Rancho lift for 2 years.
I just noticed the same thing but no leaks. I bent the tubing away. I guess that a dirty motor helps spot these problems. I am glad I caught it in time.
I guess the message would be to check for brake line rub with any lift or spacer install.
Good post!!!!
First of all I'm sorry to hear that neighbor. That is a great reason why I like to do mods and other maintenance myself instead of trusting pimply faced kids who don't care about your ride like you do. Inexperience doesn't bother me as much as carelessness. I don't know everything about these trucks, but I try to be as carefull as possible when messing around with it.
rms- I feel the same way but remember that this forum is open to all those out there who own these trucks. I agree with you, but try to understand that this site is for everyone. I can see that you are a very knowledgeable wrench turner, but not everyone on here has that experience. Don't be so grumpy partner! Yoga breaths.....

Where's that dang yoga breath animated icon....
I hope my post above didn’t come off as giving TXF150 a hard time ????? I was praising him for this post. This post will prove to be VERY valuable to many since so many have those spacers. I wish it didn’t happen to him, and am very happy to see he didn’t destroy his vehicle (or himself) due to the lack of brake fluid. That could have been a VERY dangerous mishap. I bet that if he really wanted to pursue this, he could take legal action!
Anyway, I’m still search’n for the icon….
