Another flow thru console question..

I have a FX4 on order, and it's coming with the flow thru console & center shifter. I like the style but what about the practicality? I know many of you have this setup in your trucks, probably most of you.

Do you like it better than the column shifter? Isn't it just another thing in your way? Seems to me that space could be much better used. How often do you bump you arm or coffee cup on the shifter?

I know the XLT instrument panel and column shifter are an option for the FX4. I do not want to change the instument panel. Can I get the FX4 intrument panel and flow thru console and just change the shifter position to the column? Or is it all or nothing?

Thanks,

Ryan

The column shift is STANDARD on an FX4, the flow-thru console w/shifter is an option, the guage cluster is the same no matter where the shifter is. FX4's with a column shift are out there, you just have to find one, they're not common.

As for being practical, if you're tall, you would probably be more comfortable with a column shift. I'm 6'3" and my right knee rubs against the console,it didn't do that in my old 05 (FX4 w/column shift) also if you replace the center jump seat with an XLT console you get even more storage inside the console than the flow-thru has, and your pullout cupholders on the dash are still useable for a total of six (2 in rear of console, 2 in front,2 in dash)

I opted for the column shift, because I'm 6' 8" and the flow thru wasn't comfortable for me. I still have the FX4 cluster tho...

Column shift is standard? I guess I made the assumption otherwise. I'll have to check that. Do you know what the option code is for the flow thru & center shifter?

I'm only 5'10" so height is not an issue. I was just curious as to if the shifter was unnecessarily 'in the way' all the time. I am getting a crew cab though so I am also assuming the 'flow thru' aspect of that console will be beneficial to the rear seat passengers. Is the column shifter available with the flow thru console?

thank for you reply,

Ryan

Your trucks look awful familiar....

Thanks guys.

Guess I'll go with the console shifter. I found it's part of the captains chair option.

Unless you need to haul six (6) people inside your truck, I'd have zero reservations about getting the flow-through console. It give you quite a bit of storage, good cup holders, rear air vents, etc. Try sitting in a column and flow-thru truck on a dealership lot ... that would help you decide.

I have a column shift and agree with Gordo. The rear air vents don't move a ton of air, but they're a blessing in the summer. I'll likely do the flow through mod this summer.

I'm kinda torn between which option is best! they both have their pros and cons!
I have the console w/shifter and flo-through.. I love it! except for the needed 2-5 inches for you knee, but I can live with/out that! cosmetically IMO the console shifter looks sexay! nice chrome rings and caps...flows with the lines off of the dash! I dunno though to each his own!!!
