Exclamation *** If My Soft Brake Pedal Solution Worked, Please Read ***

I recently started a thread with a SOLUTION to the soft/spongy brake pedal issue which has plagued so many here. With this thread I would like to find out from those that have benefited from my fix to please post the plant your truck was built in. It can be obtained from the VIN.

I am going to see if I can help Ford get this resolved. I am working with my local selling dealership service manager on this. Together we may be able to help Ford improve its QC.

Thanks for your help on this. It’s only helping Ford do a better job!!!

A big to you on this! I almost wish my truck had the problem so I could help. The more people that get involved in this the better.

I just tried it on my truck, I went out 1 and 1/8 turns, it felt pretty good, so I took it for a test drive. after ~4 miles and a few hurried stops (my brakes always tightened up after a hurried stop) I pulled back in the garage and can feel the brakes dragging. I'm going to back it off to 3/4 of a turn and try it again.

In the test drive, the brakes definately felt better than before. the mod definately ended the need to double pump them like I always had to, but it was a little too far. I'll post back after backing it off and let you know my results.

I posted this a few times...a little is a LOT...

I then “limped” the stang back home and readjusted. In answer to your question, the brake lights were coming on before the pedal started to firm up. I had just the slightest bit of free travel in the pedal, but apparently it wasn’t enough.

So, again, a word of caution when performing this, just take your time and by all means DO NOT make large adjustments. Make very tiny adjustments. As I stated before, less than a 1/16” is a HUGE difference in this area. HUGE! Don’t let this deter you from doing the adjustment yourself. It’s incredibly easy. There are only two nuts securing the MC to the booster.

Good Luck !

I just got back from my second test drive after readjustment. This time I backed it off to about 5/8 turn out from stock. After a hard test drive the brakes are not dragging at all, and the feel is slightly better than stock I no longer have to double pump, although they still feel a little spongy (I am running 35's however, so this may be somewhat due to my tires). I am going to leave it where it is at this point and drive it for a while to see if I want to go further.

How do you decode the VIN to get the build location?

Alot of the F-150's have a sticker in the passenger bottom corner of the windshield telling what factory it was built in. Some of you may have overlooked it if you don't ever pay any attention to it. Others of you may have removed it. But I have seen more than not having this sticker.

I'm work'n on it...trying to let the dealership earn their keep. If they don't do it I'll perform the work myself and report back.....
