Upgraded head units DDX7015 to 8017!!
Upgraded head units DDX7015 to 8017!!
My buddy was wanting to get a double din HU for his car and the high price was scaring him so I found an E-bay auction for a Kenwood DDX8017 and the G510 hard drive navi for $1040 shipped. So we made a little swap deal so he saved a bit on what he wanted and I traded my old head unit with him and got the newer and more capable 8017. I figured since the connectors were the same on the back it would be as easy as unplugging mine and plugging his in.......but it wasn't. The unit wouldnt turn on and after looking at the wiring diagram I found they had changed places of the switched power input and a few other wires around from one connector to the other. So I ended up having to rewire all of it but all in all this is a very good upgrade! I know some of you have the 8017 already and it is a lot more capable unit than the 7015, not to mention the GUI looks a lot better. I also got a 300N TV tuner that should be here monday. Also with this unit, I have 3 inputs (one for R cam and 2 for A/V) whereas the other had only one, so I can put my old PS2 in there like I wanted to a while back. So I will pretty much have everything but the kitchen sink in there all thanks to this kick *** unit! Here are some pics!!!!!!

Great! Just great! ANOTHER person that'll be more interested in what's happening inside the vehicle instead of what's going on in front of it!
I'm buying a bus pass!
Seriously, looks good!

The 6019 is a cool little deal too. It has a little bit bigger screen because they eliminate the buttons on the side and strech it out. I was lookin at the new 8019 for 07' is the excelon version of that unit, it is a little more but it's probably worth the difference. The diff between the 6017-7017 and the excelon 8017 is quite a but, different GUI and built in PCM and DD decoder, and 5V preouts......so I'm sure the 8019 has some newer cool features.
I just went for a ride and this thing is really neat, the little screen saver comes up and plays a nice little light show, and you can scroll around in the nav with the remote (something the 7015 didn't have).
That last post had a pic of it in the dash. I have several in my gallery of the old 7015 which looks exactly the same in the dash except the new one is all black trim.
