Wild Blizzard experience - Ford did great!
I got stuck but chevy couldn't help me - go out on my own
We are in the this blizzard. bout 10" of snow but 40 - 60 mph winds. plows couldn't keep up on country roads. drifts by me are up tp 8' in some areas and its almost 100% white out. All i needed to do was deliver 3 7 year olds 3 miles away for my sons b day pary. Was a balance between going fast enough so we wouldn'yt stop in some of these drifts after impact where the snow would fly up over the hood (even with my new 2.5" spacers) and goimg slow enough that I could see and stop before hitin a stranded car/truck b/c some people were dumbier than me and didn;t stay home.
Well out of a huge white out gust I see this stranded Dodge Dakota with hte giy standing behind his truck. I am only 100-200' from him and going 30 - 35 but as I slamed the brakess abs kicked in and it was obvious I was not going to stop. So I cut the wheel to the right to save the guys life.,,,although the though of Darwinism and thinning the herd of a guy who woudl stand in the road with his back to you did cross my mond (plus he was dumb enough to buy a Dodge
). So I bury the truck in a 4-5 ' deep drift and proceed to get out and give the Dodge guy a brief lecture. Well As I get out I see that there are 3 vehicles in front of him that also should not have been out as they got stranded in 2-3' drifts that I would have pounded through as I had been doing.
Long story short...er..
After The Acura MDX who almost got struck behind me, but was afraid to help me with my own tow rope, gave me a ride a mile down the road to have a std cab chevy help me a god damn dodge carger with a hemi creeps up behind us about 100' back blocking the raod as he gets stuck in like 1" of snow. stupid dodge guys.. so the chevy drags the charger out of the way and proceeds to brake the tow rope as it inched me back maybe 3-4 ". then the cops come and say " boys you have 5-10 minutes to try and get out b4 we close this road (tne vehicles were starting to drift over). So I said to myself in my mury povich typical guest voice....:" Ou uh, oh no you aint gonna leave my truck here for a week..." I grabbed a shovel and dug like a **** behind my left side wheels till I hit pavement for a 1' strip . Truck didn't move so I drove forward a bit and hammered it in reverse with my 4x4 wprkin its *** off. Blue smoke pouring out from the left side tires and I porceed to fly out of the drift. I say thanks to the chevy guy for his try and to the cop, take walk forward to make sure I can get around the stranded cars and tell the boy t buckle up were going to get out of here. Floor it and start pounding through the drifts driving in thje deeper part of eth drifts around the stranded cars and Dakota....
Oh the Dakota 4x4, Hemi and all those other cars are now buried over the roof of the cars on this closed road....

It just goes to show that not only was your vehicle able to get you out, you had the forethought to have a shovel to help dig yourself out.
It still amazes me when I see a lifted 4x4 with huge tires and no off roading tools.
Even in my 2 wheel drives I have a small shovel, tow strap, jumper cables and a tool box.
Glad you got out and didn't have to leave your truck. I bet the Ford looked good driving away from all of the other vehicles stuck in the snow.

You didn't know why he was out there, he could have been trying to get to work, maybe the storm put a family member in the hospital and he was trying to get there. Here's a simple rule I live by--If you won't help somebody when they need it, you cannot expect help from others when you need. Simply put, what goes around comes around.

Blizzard?
White out?
And a birthday "pary" is that important?
You weren't dumb for going out but the other people were "dumbier" than you?
Ugh you think you got it bad? We got over 16 inches of snow in northwest iowa with the winds. Ive learned to ALWAYS carry a shovel, towstraps and lots of warm clothing in case you get stuck. Well, last night i burried the truck messing around in about 3 feet of snow that was drifted across the road. Ran home through the blowing snow and got the tractor out. Pulled right out with a little grunting.
Hey RED WING NUT! Not to hijack this thread but I just noticed under vehicle you have "2006 Fusion 24 mpg city". Do you really have to rub our noses in it like that? Right now my winter mpg is about 10.
Your not a nice guy! I'm going for coffee!

Not to worry about the guy in the Dakota as he was given a ride home along with the guy in the Charger. Would towed their asses out but cops wouldn't let us as they had closed the road. Towing them woulda been a piece o' cake.
Thank God we didn't get the 1' + in NW Iowa. Now that woulda been unbelievable http://www.desmoinesregister.com/app....dll/frontpage

Oh and that lecture to the Dakota guy, may some day save his life.....
You dont stand there in the middle of a road with your back to oncoming traffic.....
Maybe he didn't have a daddy to teach him these things? He got a ride home so all is fine...
By the way this is after I had towed three people out earlier in the day... so I don;t think that qualifies me for a total A - hole.
Also bougght a BIG AZZ tow rope at the tractor supply store 30K pound capacity. It weighs like 3 or 4 pounds. This **** shouldn't break...ever....
