Going up a hill....

I have a pretty big hill to go up to get to my house. I'm usually going around 50mph. If I baby my truck up the hill it down shifts from O/D to 3rd gear like it should. If I don't get in the gas any, when my speed reaches 40-43mph and 2K rpm's , the truck feels like it loses power for like a second or two, then picks back up again. If I get in the gas a little, there is no problem going up the hill and I stay a constant speed the whole time.

Has anybody ever heard of this?

I have not heard of that problem but i had a stutter in the 3-2 downshift and the dealer flashed the pcm for me, seemed to fix the prob.

Hi.

Yup. Normal behaviour for the factory shift schedule.

What you are feeling in the second instance is the torque converter unlock delay.

Either disable OD, go faster, or get some custom tuning - which will help because you will have more part-throttle torque to play with, and better shifting & lockup managment overall.

Heavy truck + relatively low torque (4.6) + incline + factory shift sched = general wierdness on certain hills at certain speeds.

Cheers

Never been. My girlfriends best friend has been in some bikini contest there a few times. We never went though. My boss lives in that area by your grandfather.

Thanks. Glad to know it is normal and not something wrong with the tranny.

MGDfan,

I am really glad to know just what caused that weird shift feeling on hills. I had that until I got my Xcal2 and Troyer tunes. I had forgotton about it until this post. Thanks for the info

Kenny

Mine has the same problem. It is only on one road in this entire city that it does it on. I just turn off overdrive before I start going up it now.
