Thanks for the compiments guys.

I will probably only tow with the Truck 2-3 times a year tops.I figured the 3.55 gears would be a tad bit better on gas.I bought the 4x4 because i live in Northeast,Ohio and the 4 wheel drive is nice in the snow.If you get into the Tuner programs does it void the factory warranty.I might go with a different exhaust in a year or so.

Thanks Mark.

That's a good looking truck. You can probably bet on voiding a warranty with a tuner. Morally, it's up to you but there's plenty of guys who just take the truck to the stock strategy if they need to go to the dealer.

Hi, and welcome neighbor. I too have 3.55's and a 4x4 (your only choice on an fx4 with 20's). If you are worried about a tuner voiding your warrenty, just put it back to stock before you go to the dealer for any work and you'll be fine

Uhm, not sure about that 05RedFX4. I have a 3.73 LS rear end in mine with factory 20's (4x4 too). The rim diameter has nothing to do with the ring gear since, in the end, both the factory 18” rims and 20” rims both have the same overall tire height. This is done so the factory 18” spare will still work with a truck rolling on the factory 20” combo. The 18” tires have a taller side wall on them vs. the 20” tires. This makes them equal in over all height.

So, in the end, you CAN get a 3.73LS with 20” wheels. Just FYI.

You also have a Lariat. You can get 3.55 or 3.73 with 20's on a lariat, but on an FX4 you can only get 3.55's w/20's (another one of Fords bright ideas)
Go to build and price on fords website a build an fx4 with 20's, the only gear they allow is 3.55, then build a lariat w/20's, you can choose 3.55 or 3.73

Hi. did that change?

The '06 dealer catalog also says a 3.73 is available (for an '06 FX4, at least) - w/20's

I also recall a post awhile back that discussed this (too tired to search for it - I'm busy gettin' pounded in the 'intakes' section lol) - same confusion - online build you couldn't, but @ a dealer you could...

Strange ...

Perhaps it is due to another package which needs to be purchased??? I have the trailer towing package and know that 3.73 was automatic with that. Seems odd to offer that gear for a Lariat but not an FX4. Not really much of a difference in gearing anyway though, so not really important in the end I guess.

I'm about 10 min from the IX center, I'm right by Great Northern Mall and about 45 min from Norwalk Raceway (now Summit Raceway)

I did, and I can get an FX4 with 20's and a 3.73 ls rear end just fine. Canadian or U.S. site.

3.73 on FX4 with 20's

I just purchased an Fx4 with 20s about 2 weeks ago, it came with 3.73 gears. I believe it was standard on all the FX4's on the lot.
