Cost of transmision...pedals, transmision adapter, clutch assembly........tuning?

Well, I talked to a local dealership today and they will sell the transmission for 3K. Then i have to buy all the linkage new or find it out of a totalled f150 that was set up with a stick originally. I thought the 3K was a pretty steep price so i asked the parts guy for a part number but he wouldnt give me one. Was wondering if any of you guys knew the part number for a six speed manual that would be for an 07 sd with the 5.4? Thanks

i think it would be a great project and i wish i had the time and know how to do it. im no transmission expert, BUT from everything ive heard, it would be an electrical NIGHTMARE getting everything to work right. i may be wrong, but i would definately do the research on whats involved before you jump into this. if you have the time and know-how and/or deep pockets, then go for it

The mechanical swap is relatively simple. The problem is the ECU that runs the engine also controls the trans. You would need to buy an ECU for a manual 5.4 and program it to the vehicle. Also you would have to find a way to tell the vehicle that it is a manual and not an automatic. Not sure if Ford can do this. I would love to see someone tackle this project, too bad it is out of my budget

it would be a sweet project.. especially with the flow thru console... have a nice short throw shifter there in place of the auto shifter....but that ain't happening.

The Super duties have been available with a 5.4 and a 6 spd since 04, and a 5 spd before then

Perhaps not, but a good custom tuner certainly can do this. He would simply tell the PCM it's running with a manual tranny. It's been posted before.

That part will be the least of the worries.

Oh... and ManualF150, auto driveline loss is upwards of 30%, not 15%.

Not sure if anyone did or not, but "funner" is not a word. It's "more fun."

Yeah, that one was bugging me as well.

I would love to perform this swap someday... what sounds better than a 4.6L mod motor with healthy cams, free flowing exhuast and a manual transmission?--How about a 5.4L with the same parts.

I just think about what you need:

GT 500 Transmission (short throw, and built to handle 500 HP)
v-6 F-150 linkages and pedals
F-250 5.4 ECU
New Crossmember
New Driveshaft
Transfer Case Adapter (if 4x4) and new front driveshaft
Custom Tuning

Even with an inside hookup and junkyard finds, you are looking at easily $8k+ for just the parts. Then you need to factor in labor/fabrication, Test 'n Tune

This is a swap that just isn't likely to happen. Hopefully Ford will answer the demand and release a stick in the 09+ models...not likely though
