What Amp???
What Amp???
dont get many replies in the subwoofer/amp section....
so...im thinking about using my brothers old AudioMobile MASS 2012's in my truck...and going to sell my current setup
(supercrew sound box carpeted extra depth, 2 Elemental Designs Kv.11's *10 inch* subs, and a Elemental Designs NINe.2X amp)
quesiton is not sure what amp to run....i knows theres many....my brother ran a Rockford Fosgate Punch 1000 amp on it, so im thinking either a 1000 watt or 1200 watt amp.
Any suggestions??

Wow, usually the guys over on the amp/subwoofer section are REALLY willing to express their opinions! I doubt any one of them ever actually tested an amp on the bench, so all you'll get is hearsay and bias opinion. Before I install an amp in a customer's vehicle, I run it across the bench and check it for power consumption, power output, distortion and noise. I've found little difference between major name brand and the better economy brand amps.
My 2 cents... define what you need, then find an amp with spec's that exceed your need.

well alls i can really tell ya is...i think i need a amp for 1 Ohm....(gotta find out from my bro if the subs are dual 2's or 4's).....i know i need 1000-1200 watts.
no more because ive heard of a few people who blew the caps or holes in them on the subs using 1400 watts. the peak power of jsut one sub is 1200.

As far as amps I would get a mono 1000 watt eclipse or alpine.
So how are u fitting 12's in ur screw?

Too much doubting going on in here.
Anyway, here's my unbias opinion, not hearsay (backed up by years upon years of experience (bench tested or not). Any CEA compliant amp will work depending on how you wire the subs (final impedance/load). Just make sure you can at least match the output and then some, its a common rule of thumb. Nothing like some extra head room. So, if you have dual 2 ohm subs and wire them in series for a 2 ohm final impedance/load and they are rated at, lets say 500 watts each. Then look for an amp that can do 1200 at 2 ohms.
Not all amps are created equal. I prefer Zapco amps...I'm loyal (not biased). They are not cheap though. Some other great amps...Arc Audio, Audison, Brax, McIntosh, Genesis, DLS, Tru Technology...again, not cheap. A couple of mainstream amps...Alpine, JL Audio(slash series), Eclipse, even Kicker (their digital line). On the cheaper end...well, I just don't keep up with them sorry, but I hear Hifonics has a good following. Their old school stuff was great up until they got bought out. Heck, although they don't make a mono...you can get twisted up in the ol' tube vs solid state debate and look at Butler Audio.
I hope this actually helped some...the main thing is to match the amp to the subs and vice versa.
