Question about stealership work....

A while back I had the timing chain tensioner worked on at the dealership. There was some kind of problem with excessive noise coming from the chain. Other than the noise not occurring anymore, how can I actually verify that any work was done? Once the work was completed, they didn't adjust my timing. Should they have? I have to bring the truck in for another issue soon so should I have them check the timing due to their previous work while it is in there?

Timing is PCM controlled. They should of supplied you with a RO (Repair Order) after all warranty work performed. If you have a VIN # i am sure you can get someone to run an OASIS to see what work was performed.

Who can run this report for me? They gave me a slip that said some work had been done, but it looked more like a parts list than work completed.

There is base camshaft timing that must be set if a chain was replaced. The ECM needs initial timing to now how to adjust the variable valve timing. It is very specific and if the motor was not timed right it would throw a check engine light right away and more than likely run like crap because the VVT would be unable to compensate. Checking timing would require removing the valve covers. As long as vehicle runs properly and has no oil leaks from valve covers, which were removed for service, I would'nt worry about it. Also if the truck is out of warranty you can request to have your old parts given to you when job is completed. Unfortunately with warranty you cannot.
