brake issues....

truck has about 38xxx miles on it, bought it used about 10,000 miles ago. My front brakes(and it may even just be the drivers side) have started to squeak badly. When this first started about 6 weeks ago i took it to my dealer thinking it was the brakepads, but they told me that the brake pads on it were fairly new(must have been right before i got it) so instead they machined my rotors and everything went back to working great... just the other day they started squeaking badly again. when i first brought it in they said that machineing the rotors should fix it(and it did for 6 weeks) but that if that didnt end up helping it might just be the non-oem brake pads that are currently on there... does that sound right to you guys? i have no problem with paying to get the problem fixed, i just want it FIXED with no more squeaking period.... what do you guys think.....

Try sanding the pads slightly but a lot of it is probally due to the colder weather. If you are really annoyed, just try aftermarket pads. I just took in our Mini Cooper S today for a service and to have a few things checked out and one of them was the brakes were squealing. The tech checked it out and said the rotors were fine and it had about 55% pad left. They told me what they advise is to try going up to 35 mph and slamming on the brakes, of course on an empty road. LOL. The tech said this should clean the pads off and stop the squealing for some time. Now, I haven't tried it yet so take that with a grain of salt since I don't have any first hand experience with it, yet.

i had the same problem, and yes cold weather is definitly a factor. i drove through a shallow river during cold weather and soon after the brakes sqeaked like mad. i understand the frustration because it is very annoying and extremely loud. Thumper is right, aftermarket pads are probably the best solution. if you're offroading at all, just make sure to really get all the crap outa your brakes when you wash it.

Do the OEM pads have the little plates on the back? If not, get some of that anti-squeal stuff. It's usually orange or red, and it goes on the back of the pad. Try that, or just replace the pads.

well just did what thump suggested with the hard stop from 35mph.... only drove for about a mile after but seems like that might have done it, atleast for right now....would that suggest that theres just crap on my pads and i really just need to clean the brakes off?
