question about removing nerf bars...

i have a 2005 kingranch and i want to remove the factory running boards...do i undo them from the mounts or undo the mounting brackets from the body? its probably a dumb question but since i live in a rust prone area i didn't know if taking the bolts out that hold the mounting brackets to the body would allow rust to set in those empty bolt holes or not....thanks

I would undo the mounts from the body and then put the bolts back in the holes.

take the mounts off, go to a parts store and look through thier interior fasteners and find the one that will fit in the bolt hole and get those, then just shoot some rustproof paint into the hole, let dry and insert the interior fastener and your good to go.

There should be 8 bolts on each side. Just take out the bolts and clips and you will be fine.

I took the boards, bolts and clips off of my KR. When you go to remove the clips use a flat screw driver or something else and open up the clip a little bit. This will stop the retainer on the clip from draging across the metal on the truck and scratching off the paint. If it looks like there is damage to the paint you could just spray some paint or rubber undercoating on the area and seal up the scratch. When I took mine off I took my time and could not find any chips or scratches in the paint. So I did not worry about it. You also might find someone that wants those. The Arizona Beige is only availale on the KR and will command a premium. I made several hundred when I sold mine, and charged less then half of what the dealership wanted.

I just removed mine a couple days ago too. It only took about 10 minutes wth an impact wrench.

Any of you guys wanna let me use those steps while your not using them??? My fiancee is still whining about my truck being hard to get in. She gets what she wants and I'm a sucker for a pretty girl. I am definitely marrying up. A beauty and the beast kind of thing I guess...

I took mine off about a year ago and just used gloss black spray paint to "recoat" the holes. Obviously use the applicable color but no worries. BTW i'm reinstalling cab length N-Fabs next week (when they arrive) so I guess protecting the holes was a moot point.

I will try to hook you up some time. All I have is crappy cell phone pics. Right now the truck is nasty, dirty. Check back tonight.

ktexas, what's your email address? I might be replacing my OEM black bars with OEM chrome ones. I'll let you know.

Again, sorry about the hijack.
