2000 miles and already replacing tranny!! Need advice

I brought home my brand new 06 King Ranch in December. Last week I took it to the dealer for some minor cosmetic fixes and a very intermittant transmission shudder. They call today and tell me they dropped the tranny and found it full of metal shavings. They are replacing it with a new one! It only has 2000 miles on it.

I want to ask them to give me an extended warranty at their cost. Has anyone ever asked for that and have any suggestions? Any other suggestions or things I should be aware of?

So your getting a new tranny compliments of Ford. What entitles you to an ESP for free now?! They are fixing it, and the only think I'd ask for (if they didn't already give it) is a free loner while they fix.

You brought your truck in for a transmission issue, they diagnose it, and offer to replace it with a brand new tranny and you have the ***** to ask them for an extended warranty on their dime?

Wow. And to top it off the truck ALREADY comes with a 5yr/60k mile Powertrain ESP.

Only warranty i even think to ask for would be an additional 2k warranty on the tranny

Yeah, I think that the warranty that comes with it is working well for you right now. That's what it's for. I don't think that asking for an extended warranty on the tranny is a good idea either. After all, they are replacing it.

The dealer diagnosed your problem and decided the best course of action was to replace the tranny. Sounds to me that they're taking good care of you. I know that some '06's and all '07+ are covered by an additional 5yr 100,000 mile powertrain warranty. Seeing as you have an '06 King Ranch there is a good chance you already have extra coverage for just this type of issue.

BTW you have only two chances of getting a free ESP from your dealer----slim and nil!

When something happens under warranty... and it repeats itself post warranty proving it was never properly fixed, they replace it as if it was still under warranty. You have a LONG time before you will run out of warranty. Just go with it for now and don't worry about it.

Thanks for all the replies. I think I came off wrong when I asked the question. I am just worried that once they start tearing into a new vehicle it might never be the same and lead to more issues down the road, which may or may not be related. I dont feel I am entitled to a free ESP. I just wanted some input from those of you who have more experience with Ford than I do. I am greatful that they are fixing it under warranty, and they have taken decent care of me so far. Nothing compared to some other brands of vehicles I have owned though.

Thanks

I think it was probably just a fluke. I'm glad to see the dealer caught it and did the right thing. Your truck came with the 5yr/60k powertrain warranty anyway. You should be fine. Hell I bought a new Ranger one time years ago and they had to replace the motor at 800 miles! Bad oil pump from the factory was the cause.

Well its cool that they are "covering" your trans under warranty and it seems like you didn't have to fight with them for it. My advice is as follows.

1. For the love of God never come off as an A-hole and ask for an ESP, especially when they are fixing it for you.
2. The dealership seems to be really accommodating to your problem don't tick them off whatever you do.
3. Be patient and courteous if this trans fails and they give you the run around put on your boxing gloves but until then knock it off.

Be absolutely sure that they are replacing the tranny with a new, factory direct shipped transmission. It could be a rebuilt - yes, even with such low mileage.

Im not sure he really has any say in it.

Ford has no reason to give an extended warranty. They are also under no obligation to install a new factory direct tranny.

All they are required to do is repair it.

Wow, some people take things for granted. . No, you don't need an extended warranty. It sounds like the dealership is treating you damn good since you called the shudder a VERY intermittant one. Most dealers would pass it off and say they couldn't reproduce the problem. Just get the new transmission and be happy.

PS: Don't think that I don't know how you feel. I had a 2004 F-150 that had almost every single piece on the truck replaced through-out the 20,000 miles that I had owned it before I got rid of the damn thing. I wish you the best of luck though!
