Engine squeaking

Once and while when I start my truck it will squeak until it warms up. I took it too the dealership and it would not do it then. It does not happen every day, but it is starting to annoy me. Does anyone have a clue of what it could be? Thanks.

oh yeah i have a 04 supercrew 5.4

Chad

My sons Ranger did that, only squeeled when initially starting it in the morning. Eventually got worse, ended up being a bad bearing in the alternator.

sounds like an idler pulley, or compressor pulley if you typically start your truck with the a/c on

Mine was doing that when first started on cold mornings. I replaced the serpentine belt with a gatorback and no more squeal. It has only been a month or two, so I can't vouch for it being a long term fix.

It started out random, maybe once/twice a week when it was cold out side, it would go away after about 5-10 seconds.... then as time went on, (about 2-3 months) did it more and more, finally the squeal became constant.

its definitely the cold- as noted above- mine will scream around 10*F and lower. it will do it for about 5 seconds and will then run normal- im not too worried

to answer hawkpilot, even a gatorback will do it

Same thing happened to my Ranger, turned out to a bad bearing in the idler pulley. Could just be your serpentine belt...

Dayco makes a belt that is exactly the same as the Goodyear belt. It is a Driverite. It is cross checked and the quality is excellent. Mine is due to be changed. It chirps a bit when cold and squeels at WOT with the Edge. About $40 for the belt.
