Angry I did somthing stupid

I went to this nautical flea market thing this morning, and the parking lots were jammed. Alot of people where parking not in the spots, but up on the median so i did the same. Well, I was thinking that if they towed me or somthing for parking there, i should put on my emergency brake. So well the show was cool, alot of boats and stuff. When i left, I put my truck in reverse and tried to move. I didnt. I thought that I was stuck since I was parked in dirt or what ever so i put it in 4hi. Still nothing, I put it in nuetral and 4low then back in reverse and well, nothing. So I gave it alittle more and then i herd some clanking and i was like 'oh frickle sticks.' So I put it in nuetral and put it in 2hi then realized I had my parking brake on So I un engaged it and drove away.

Not even 10 seconds later I start hearing this metal on metal clanging. As if I had a metal chain on the bottom of my truck towards the rear just clanging away on the road. Well I thought that I should just drive it home. On my way home the sound only got worse, the clanking went away but it was replaced with a metal grinding Every so often it would sound as if a chain got snagged up and then got forced loose again. So yeah, now my truck is f-ed up, I guess I should just bring it to the dealer.

UPDATE: Ok, I went to my dealer and had a guy drive around the service area with me. Just bout 5 seconds into the drive it starts up again and the guy is like 'wow, i didnt think that was your truck when you drove in. I thought it was something in the road.' So now my baby is at the dealership getting examined. He said he will call when they figure out whats wrong. Let me tell you, the grinding/clanking is really frickin loud.

Wow, when I left my parking brake on my truck just required a little more gas and it drove fine, I quickly realized my error and released the brake, no problem. All that does is wear off some parking brake pad. It isn't strong enough to break your truck. Have you looked under your truck to make sure something isn't hanging off of it? Maybe you snagged something going up on the median.

I have used the parking brake offroad to help lock in the limited slip. Driving with it on for a couple feet should not cause any damage. I think faulty parts are to blame, not you

Not to add insult to injury,

Well, I was thinking that if they towed me or somthing for parking there, i should put on my emergency brake.

All they would do is put the dollies on your locked wheels and charge you extra to get your ride back from the impound lot.

You did it for nothing........:o

Did it make a crazy grinding noise? Is it a major problem that should be looked at immediately?

Dude just pull one of your rear wheels and pull your rotor and there you will find the parking brake shoes which by the way you described your whole ordeal I venture to say those shoes are toast and probably seperated from the metal part. Hey could have been worse try this one on for size, 2000 Monaco Windsor 40ft diesel pusher with a 8.3 ISC 350hp Cummins released the parking brake which is air operated (air brakes) and the coach wouldnt move did a few attempts to rock it forward and backwards well on a slip up straight neutral drop and guess what?????? the pinion and ring gear lost a few teeth lol. Happend to one of my customers at work.

lol no offense but I didnt understand half of your story. But I dont have any air tools an deven if i did, what would i do with the burnt parking brake shoes? Idk how to replace them or where to get the new parts. What if it isnt the shoes? I guess i feel more comfortable with ford doing it.

go to the dealer and ask them to check the hub actuators, the brakes are fine if the grinding noise comes from the front then its the hubs for sure. its not a big deal if u still have warranty

Yes, Parking brakes and turning wheels wont stop your truck from being towed.

It just makes it more of a pain in the rear to tow away, and Im sure the tow truck driver will add that to the bill.

Come on you guys, They tow away totalled cars with broken axles and missing wheels every day.

Do you really think a truck with its emergency brakes on is going to leave them stumped??

Ouch! It's amazing how violent things are to a truck that look like nothing on the outside like dumping the clutch or backing into a dock at anything faster than a crawl. A LOT of weight and a lot of power means caress and 4-5 lane u-turns

As far nuclears concern, it is probably the shoes on the emergency brake. Probably sheared the rivets that hold the brake pad material to the shoe. Like supersport said, just chock (block) your front wheels, take a back wheel off and with the parking brake NOT engaged take off the drum and take a look. You might have to pull kind of hard in case the brake pad did break off and got lodged in there somewhere. If that all looks fine, look at the other side. If they are both fine, go to the dealer.
