Talking Pics of the plugs

Here they are after 103k. These are the worst 4 of them by far. The others have far less rust.

Wow...103k in 3 years, thats alot of driving. 83k more and i will catch you.
Did you notice a big difference after the new plugs were installed?

I cant tell for sure. I also got the ECU flashed, but gas milage went up alot.

For those in the “know” could you provide some close up pics of the front of the plug. I would like to see the color of the porcelain tip so I can read how efficient the motor was running!

That tan color looks to be dead on the money. I'd say thats a healthy motor and good for another 100k! Those plugs really look good for the mileage on them.

Good job! You just got me pumped up when it comes to changing mine. I have been worried reading all the problems with this task. I have a 2004, but I only have 13000 miles. Short trips most of the time and that's what I'm concerned about. I would feel better if I drove it like I stoled it when it comes to replaceing the plugs. Get them good and hot on a long trip then change them. Looks lke you did it right the first time. Thanks for the pics, made me fell warm and fuzzy. Loking at those plugs, you shouldn't have any problems for another 100,000 miles. Thanks

The part where they break off(just below the threads) looks very clean on all of them. I wonder if the buildup was cleaned of as they worked they out. They really look clean in the problem area. In addition, they were buring clean, your engine seems to be in great shape.

I'm glad they came out too. I finally had to get em changed. I was getting cold acceleration pinging, and the plugs were nearly 4,000 miles over the interval.


Runs better than new now with the new plugs and ECU tune.

I'd like to see how worn the tip is compared to a new plug so we can dispel the myth that 100K is a good service interval for any sparkplug. Sorry but none of those pics do the center electrode any justice.. Basically if the center electrode is smooth and worn compared to a plug w/ nice sharp edges your losing power, takes more spark enegy to jump the gap on a smooth surface vs. a sharp one.

Yeah you only usually see stuff like...

The dealer broke 7 of 8 and want 2400 to remove the head.

Exactly, very few ever post the good things about their trucks. But, whenever something seems to fail, they post, and everyone seems to think the world is coming to an end.
