I've actually been thinking of doing this on my truck as well. I love the way it looks on the SD.

Heres my questions..
Will the SD flames fit on and look good on the F150?
Should I put the decals on or have them painted on?

Budha...I think it will look pretty cool with the 2 tone and the flames. If you get the decals and they look like crap you can just pull them off. Wasted money,,but bettere then sanding and repainting

Finally a useful post outta you.

I've been checking up how the flames are done and according to a couple of web articles, they all say this; "The flames, designed by a Harley-Davidson factory customizer, are painted using Ford's patented wet-on-wet process, which produces a durable, seamless finish in the factory." So according to these articles, they are painted on and not decals.

So basically I gotta find me an awesome paint guy, which I believe I have. I bought my fender flares through a local truck place (if you click on the link and go to galleries there are some nice fords in there) so I could get the hook up on a paint guy and to throw some business at a local merchant.

Thanks for your thoughts.

It's not to terribly big, I believe they just had their 2yr anny. They specialize in mostly diesel tuning but they do alot of suspension work too. There's a few pics of it in the gallery - shop pics....and yes that black crewcab SD in the pics is f'ing huge (30" of lift and 52" tires) and IIRC does somewhere around 17's in the 1/4 mile Link to vid of run!!

Hey Clown..ever think of finding a vinyl graphics guy to make up some flames for you? I was thinking of asking my guy if he could make me a set. I gotta see if he has a vinyl thats almost clear with a white haze. I think once thats put on the truck, it will give the ghost effect to it.

Just a thought

Sorta....but not with the flames.

Instead of painting the two tone, I was thinking of having them done in vinyl incase I didn't like it - I could just peel them off. If I could get the flames put on vinyl w/ the two tone, I'll do it that way. Gotta see the paint guy first.

i say you should def paint them not vinyl....most flames are painted and then re-clearcoated over so not a huge deal....my brother has a place he uses in nyc that may do the ghost flames on his h2....i would love to do them on my KR but i dont think they would look right with the black/tan combo

Gotchya

K1NGoftheRanch...I was just suggesting the vinyl as a temporary thing just to see if he likes them or not. As I said before, it would be much easier and cheaper to pull off the vinyl than it would to sand and repaint if he re4ally hated the flames. Once the decision is made to keep them, then go get them painted.

Here is pic of my flames. Your truck is a darker but it gives you an idea.

I am sure it will look great any way you go.
