Lost all highs after OEM Nav install on 06-Lariat???
Hi,
I have an 06 Lariat 4x4 Screw. It does NOT have the audiophile system, but does have the 6disc/MP3/Sirius HU. I just swapped it out with the OEM nav HU from an 07 F150. I got it from a seller on these forums. The Nav unit works fine as do all the controls on my steering wheel.
Here’s the problem….Once installed I IMEDIATELY noticed that the music sounded dull. No highs at all! To make a good analogy, it sounds as if one activated a “Dolby B – noise reduction “ circuit on a cassette deck :-) I have a pair of Pioneer 6x8 3 ways in the front doors too. I have turned the treble all the way up and activated the 3 different “DSP” modes (all passengers, driver, rear) with no change in the loss of highs. It sounds as if the HU has an active crossover already built in and my door speakers are not getting the full range signal.
Here’s my theory, and I obviously could be completely wrong….If a factory audiophile system feeds the factory tweeter a separate signal vs. the one going to the 6x8 just below it, then perhaps my HU needs to be “re-programmed” to bypass the internal crossover??? In a factory audiophile set up, how does the tweeter get crossed over? Is it a passive set up coming directly from the 6x8 speaker, or does the tweeter have it’s own dedicated wires coming directly from the HU, implying active internal crossover??? If this is the case, then perhaps my assumption is correct?
Of course, since I do not have an audiophile system, I have no idea if my theory is correct? Is there a way to correct this without installing separate tweeters in the door AND without sending the HU back to be reprogrammed?
Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the suggestion, but I am asking how the audiophile tweeters are wired up from the factory? This question is asked due to the new OEM Nav unit I just installed not suppling any highs to my front door mounted 6x8's.
IF there IS an internal x-over in this OEM Nav unit, then my questions are :
1) can it be bypassed?
OR
2) if it can not be bypassed, are the wires for the factory tweeters already in the door for F150s not equipped with them? If the wire harness has the tweeter leads regardless of which HU you have, then perhaps I could run out and grab some tweets which would fit.
This all assumes that the OEM NAV unit I just installed is actually crossing over the highs from the door mounted 6x8's.
If you are asking does the factory audiophile 6disc/MP3 system use a biwire setup on front stage, not it does not... it has a passive crossover built into the speaker on the midrange and the tweeter plugs into the midrange... single wire feed from HU....

THANKS! That was part of the answer I was looking for. Not having an audiophile system from the factory, I wasn't sure if there should be wires for the tweeter in the door even though I don't have the tweeters.
Not to Highjack your thread, as I have no idea what could be wrong, I did find this on Ebay, Aftermarket Nav system that mounts on the dash storage area, Looks pretty cool to me.
Might be able to resale your non working Nav System and get something different.

Actually that's who I got it from. I am most assuredly not here to complain about Mark or his product!!!! Please, don’t misunderstand. He was nothing but professional and courteous when we spoke and had the programmed unit to me with in 3 days! It was also VERY WELL PACKED!!!! At this point, I would make every effort to order from him again, if there was something I needed that he was selling. I tried to reach him, but it’s the weekend and I completely understand him not being available, I mean heck, it IS the weekend. I figured I’d try these forums to see if it may be something someone has encountered before. I didn’t know if it may be some hidden setting or something. I’ll try to touch base with Mark during the week, but as I said, just thought I’d try the forum.
