Need tailgate width measurement

I am thinking about trading my '01 F-250 for a used F-150, about a 2005 or so. I don't haul much anymore and I think the 150 is a more refined truck. I have compared the trucks but I cannot find the measurement of the tailgate opening for a SuperCrew 5.5ft bed. I assume the crew cab only comes in 5.5'. The short bed is fine but I need the opening to be 60" just like my 250. We have an '03 150 (previous model) crew cab and the tailgate is very narrow. I can't get the new 150 if it is the same. I would appreciate this measurement so I can proceed with my 150 search. Thanks.

My 06 book shows the max width inside bed box is 65.2". And 50" between the wheel wells. If I remember, I'll measure my tailgate width tomorrow and let you know.

Thanks for the info. I didn't know the longer bed was available on the '06. That would be nice but I don't know if I'll go that new.
kitchenboy, I would appreciate it. I'll probably go look at some trucks in St. Louis later this week. If the tailgate isn't wide enough I'd be wasting my time. I sell Argo amphibious 6x6 ATVs so i need to be able to drive a 60" wide vehicle into the bed.

Does anyone here have a picture of an 04 or newer 150 with a utility (not a sport quad) in the bed? I'm seriously conisdering an f150 but I want to my sure my 700 Grizz fits in the bed. I know width won't be a problem.

How wide is it. You only have 50" between the wheel well humps.

I have a 05 150 with the 6.5 foot bed and an 06 Kawasaki Brute Force 650. You're correct in saying that the width will not be a problem, but length for me is. If I load the quad into the bed, I cannot close the tailgate. I would need about another 4 inches or so and then would be able to close it completely. I didn't like riding around with the tailgate open so I just went out and bought an open snowmobile trailer and now use that. Much better IMO

Thats a bummer, I hate trailering my quad. One of themain reasons I want a full size is to throw it in the bed. I don't mind if some of it is hanging on the tailgate, but if its not even close...than thats no good.

When I load the quad in the bed, the rear tires basically sit in the crack between the bed and the tailgate. So its not all on the tailgate its just enough so that you cant actually close it. If you dont mind leaving the tailgate down, it wouldn't be a big deal at all; I just dont like rocks kicking up into my a$$end.

Well thats good to know that it will fit. It's matter if I want to leave it down as well.
